ICE CHIPS: The KOOTENAY ICE enter the 17th week of the 2003-2004 season with a 20-19-3-3 record (12-8-1-1 at home, 8-11-2-2 on the road, 4-0-3-3 in overtime) and in fourth place in the BC DIVISION...KOOTENAY will play their next four games at the CRANBROOK RECREATION COMPLEX.
HE'S BACK: Following his return from the 2004 World Junior Hockey Championships where he helped TEAM CANADA win a silver medal, NIGEL DAWES has been named the GREYHOUND WHL Player of the Week...DAWES, who recorded seven goals and two assists during KOOTENAY'S three game road trip, has won this award for the second time this year and fourth time in his career...NIGEL has moved into second place in both all-time career goals scored with the ICE with 95 (record is 124 held by JARRET STOLL) and power play goals with 39 (record is 54 held by JARRET STOLL)...DAWES is tied for fourth in career game winning goals with 12 and is fourth in career points with 170...Despite missing 15 games due to his participation in the WORLD JUNIOR tournament and an early season injury, DAWES is tied for the League lead in goals with 33 (tied with JEREMY WILLIAMS of the SWIFT CURRENT BRONCOS).
DID YOU KNOW: JEFF GLASS is fifth in all-time games played with the KOOTENAY franchise (68) and in minutes played with 3,711...BRAD ZANON played in his 300th career WHL game January 10 in MEDICINE HAT (209 with TRI-CITY, 92 with the ICE)...DEREK PRICE needs to play in two more games to reach 100 in his WHL career...The ICE are 3-1-1-0 during the month of January.
TRANSACTIONS: KOOTENAY acquired 17-year-old Forward SEAN AFFLECK from the SPOKANE CHIEFS in exchange for a sixth round selection in the 2004 WHL Bantam Draft...The ICE have suspended 17-year-old Defenseman JOSH FAUTH for the remainder of the season for conduct detrimental to the team.
SCORING STREAKS: NIGEL DAWES has recorded at least one point in each of the last four games he has played in (9-2-11 in span)...DALE MAHOVSKY (0-6-6), MARTIN SAGAT (1-4-5) and ADAM CRACKNELL (1-2-3) have each recorded at least point in each of their last three games.
ONE YEAR AGO: After 45 games of the 2002-2003 season the ICE were 23-13-6-3, after 46 games 23-14-6-3 and after 47 games 23-15-6-3.
