MASL Major Arena Soccer League

Week Six MASL Team of the Week

December 6, 2016 - Major Arena Soccer League (MASL) News Release

KANSAS CITY (Dec 6, 2016) - As the divisional races are starting to heat up, the players of the Major Arena Soccer League are stepping up to the challenge. These are the best of the best for Week Six.

Goalkeeper:

Stephen Paterson (Kansas City Comets) - This is the second time Paterson has earned a spot on this list. Paterson faced 19 shots on Saturday night against the previously unbeaten Chicago Mustangs and stopped them all. He recorded the first shutout for the Comets since the team returned to action in 2010 and the first in Kansas City arena soccer since 2005.

Defender:

John Sosa (Kansas City Comets) - Sosa contributed two assists to the Comets 6-0 win on Saturday and led the team with 3 blocks to help preserve the shutout victory.

Midfielders:

Gordy Gurson (Cedar Rapids Rampage) - After being named the MASL Player of the Month for November, Gurson scored six goals in two games, including the game winning goal in each.

Ian Bennett (Milwaukee Wave) - Bennett led his team in their 14-6 win over the St. Louis Ambush. He scored 5 goals and assisted on another in the team's biggest victory of the season.

Forwards:

Max Ferdinand (Milwaukee Wave) - Ferdinand was crucial to the Wave's efforts as he was involved in HALF of their scores. He tallied three goals and four assists on the night.

Kraig Chiles (San Diego Sockers) - While putting your team on your back is not a requirement for inclusion on the Team of the Week, it seems to be a common theme in Week Six. Chiles scored 4 of the 5 San Diego goals vs the Tacoma Stars to lead his team to victory, including the game winner.

Honorable Mention:

Willam Vanzela (Baltimore Blast), Josh Lemos (Milwaukee Wave), Piotr Sliwa (Florida Tropics SC), Staurt Grable (Milwaukee Wave), Stephen Basso (Harrisburg Heat), Christian Gutierrez (Atletico Baja), Lucas Rodriguez (Kansas City Comets), Antonio Manfut (Syracuse Silver Knights)

The MASL was formed in 2014 by teams from the Professional Arena Soccer League and Major Indoor Soccer League. The league represents the highest level of professional arena soccer in the world, and features teams across North America, with teams playing coast-to-coast in the United States and Mexico.
