FRIDAY, APRIL 23
Memphis Xplorers 69, BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT BATTLE WINGS 29 (Attendance: 3,840)
BOSSIER CITY, La. - Brian Jones passed for four touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead the Memphis Xplorers (2-1) past the Bossier-Shreveport Battle Wings (1-3) 69-29 Friday night at the Century Tel Center. Jones completed 17-of-28 passes for 202 yards, including seven completions for 87 yards and one touchdown to Kevin Prentiss. Ryan Karr added five receptions for 80 yards and two touchdowns. Bossier-Shreveport's Sherard Poteete completed 17-of-35 passes for 181 yards and four touchdowns. Bo Smith and Francisco Kelly each caught a pair of touchdown for the Battle Wings. Both Jones and Poteete tossed two interceptions in the game.
Tennessee Valley Vipers 68, LAREDO LAW 43 (Attendance: 6,766)
LAREDO, TEXAS - Jerrian James (Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game) hauled in 13 receptions for 186 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Tennessee Valley Vipers (2-1) to a 68-43 win over the Laredo Law (0-3) in the first Arena Football game ever played at the Laredo Entertainment Center. Teammate Ronney Daniels also had four touchdowns and he forced one of the five Laredo fumbles, earning U.S. Army Ironman honors in the process. Quarterback Josh Rogers completed 16-of-34 passes for 191 yards and five touchdowns for the Law. The Law also totaled 175 yards and kick returns, highlighted by a 52-yard touchdown runback by P.J. Winston.
TULSA TALONS 66, Peoria Pirates 47 (Attendance: 5,650)
TULSA, Okla. -Michael Wall passed for nine touchdowns and earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game as the Tulsa Talons (2-1) shot past the Peoria Pirates (1-3) 66-47 Friday night at the Tulsa Convention Center. Mitch Allner caught 11 of Wall's passes for a game high 124 yards and four touchdowns. Pirates quarterback Michael Souza threw five touchdowns on 19-of-40 passing, but also was picked off three times. Bjorn Barre had two of those interceptions along with four catches for 62 yards and three touchdowns, earning U.S. Army Ironman of the Game for the Talons. Milton Bowen led the Pirates defense with six tackles (4UA-4AT), one fumble recovery, an interception and two passes defended.
BIRMINGHAM STEELDOGS 77, Columbus Wardogs 45 (Attendance: 6,025)
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Jeff Aaron passed for five touchdowns and rushed for one more as the Birmingham Steeldogs (3-1) downed the Columbus Wardogs (1-2) 77-45 Friday night at the Birmingham-Jefferson Civic Center. Detronn Harris led all Birmingham receivers with six catches for 65 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned five kicks for 139 yards, including two 50-yard touchdown runbacks. Adrian Cockfield led the Wardogs with seven receptions for 97 yards and one score. His teammate Terrell Sutton managed two interceptions on the night.
SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE 59, Central Valley Coyotes 34 (Attendance: 3,607)
SAN DIEGO - Kane Claunch tossed five touchdowns and rushed for one more to lead the San Diego Riptide (1-3) to its first win, a 59-34 decision over the Central Valley Coyotes (0-3) Friday night at the San Diego Sports Arena. Completing 13-of-23 passes for 221 yards, Claunch threw three touchdowns to Nakoa McElrath, who totaled three catches for 64 yards. Kenyatte Morgan paced the Coyotes with seven receptions for 71 yards, while teammate Jajuan Huddleston hauled in four passes for 51 yards and two touchdowns. ADT Defensive Player of the Game Rico Curtis made six solo tackles, including one for a loss and he recovered two fumbles for the Riptide.
SATURDAY, APRIL 24
WICHITA STEALTH 68, Green Bay Blizzard 53 (Attendance: 3,532)
Valley Center, Kas. - Aaron Sparrow set a team record with 382 passing yards as the Wichita Stealth (4-0) dropped the Green Bay Blizzard (1-2) 68-53 Saturday night at the Kansas Coliseum. Newly assigned offensive specialist Damon Thompson caught 12 passes for 161 yards and five touchdowns to garner Baby Ruth Real Deal Player of the Game honors. The Blizzard were led by Randall Lane and Robert Garth who caught a combined five touchdowns. Stealth wide receiver/defensive back Brian Livingston would earn the U.S. Army Ironman of the Game award for the second consecutive week, and Stealth defensive specialist Ty Ardoin would grab the ADT Defensive Player of the Game award.
Louisville Fire 62, ALBANY CONQUEST 56 (Attendance: 5,833)
ALBANY, N.Y. - James Scott hauled in a nine-yard touchdown pass from Matt Sauk with just three seconds remaining in the game to lift the Louisville Fire (3-0) to a 62-56 win over the Albany Conquest (1-2) Saturday night at Pepsi Arena. Sauk earned Baby Ruth Offensive Player of the Game honors by throwing seven touchdowns on 20-of-32 passing for 290 yards. Scott totaled 12 catches for 171 yards and four touchdowns. Jamie Ware caught five passes for 90 yards with two receiving touchdowns and one rushing score that put the Conquest ahead 56-55 with 13 seconds left in the game. He also registered three pass defended to earn U.S. Ironman of the Game. Conquest quarterback Gus Ornstein was 18-of-32 passing for 265 yards with seven touchdowns.
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 40, Quad City Steamwheelers 27 (Attendance: 4,953)
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - Kyle Grove (ADT Defensive Player of the Game) led a solid defensive effort with 2.5 tackles, an interception and six pass break-ups as the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (3-0) held the Quad City Steamwheelers (3-1) to their lowest point total since 2002 in a 40-27 win. Pioneers quarterback Tim Hicks was the Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game, as he completed 16-of-27 passes for 178 yards and three touchdowns. J.R. Thomas, Leroy McFadden and Rocco Forgione each caught a touchdown for the Pioneers. Thomas led the trio with 11 total catches for 140 yards. Quad City quarterback Ronnie Gordon threw for 244 yards with two touchdowns and was picked-off twice. He also rushed for another two scores. Tim Dodge led the Steamwheelers receiving corps with eight receptions for 149 yards but only two touchdowns.
MACON KNIGHTS 57, Manchester Wolves 34 (Attendance: 3,276)
MACON, Ga. - Caleb Slover completed 26-of-37 passes for 260 yards with six touchdowns and he was named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game, as the Macon Knights (1-2) defeated the Manchester Wolves (1-3) 57-34 to earn their first win of 2004. Slover also rushed for 21 yards and a touchdown on five carries. Jamaal Garmen led the Knights receivers with nine receptions for 84 yards and three touchdowns. Brandon Pedrazza, who earned Ironman of the Game, caught seven balls for 78 yards with two scores and he had a key interception in the fourth quarter. George Williams of the Wolves led all receivers with 11 catches for 118 yards and two touchdowns. Wolves quarterback Chris Sanders finished with 186 yards on 16-of-29 passing. He threw three interceptions and two touchdowns.
Cape Fear Wildcats 55, FLORIDA FIRECATS 35 (Attendance: 6,123)
ESTERO, Fla. - Coming in off the bench, Chris Wallace completed 10-of-23 passes for 164 yards and four touchdowns to lead the Cape Fear Wildcats (2-1) past the Florida Firecats (1-2) 55-35 Saturday night at TECO Arena. Wallace was named Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game and threw two touchdowns to Matt Burstein, who led the Wildcats receivers with four catches for 58 yards. Rodney Brown added two receptions for 50 yards and one touchdown. Florida's Cainon Lamb earned Ironman honors, as he led all receivers with seven receptions for 92 yards and three touchdowns. The Wildcats are off to a 2-1 start for the third straight season.
RIO GRANDE VALLEY DORADOS 44, Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz 41 (Attendance: 5,600)
HIDALGO, TEXAS - Tim Cook's block of a last-second field goal attempt by the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (2-1) preserved a 44-41 win for the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (2-1) before a sellout crowd Saturday night at Dodge Arena. Dorados quarterback Will Burch was named Baby Ruth Real Deal Player of the Game, as he completed 16-of-26 attempts for 164 yards and five touchdowns. Preston Hartfield had two of those scores on three receptions for 42 yards. He also led the Dorados with 5.5 tackles (2UA-7AT), including one for a loss, and he had an interception to be named ADT Defensive Player of the Game. Al Hunt was named the game's Ironman, leading all receivers with eight receptions for 116 yards and two touchdowns for the Yard Dawgz.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDERS 45, Bakersfield Blitz 40 (Attendance: 3,968)
HONOLULU - Defense stole the show, and the victory, for the Hawaiian Islanders as Tiki Sagapolutele and Mose Tuia stuffed Ben McCombs on a game-saving goal line stop to seal the Islander's (3-1) 45-40 win over the Bakersfield Blitz (2-2), Saturday night at the Blaisdell Arena. Darnell Arceneaux earned Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game accolades by completing 18-of-28 passes for 278 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed for two additional scores and did not throw an interception. Mike Miller led the Islanders with seven receptions for 110 yards and teammate Nian Taylor added five catches for 94 yards and one touchdown. Blitz quarterback Chad Elliott threw for 304 yards and three touchdowns, including two to Eric Mahanke who led the Blitz with nine receptions for 149 yards.
