Published on April 23, 2014 under Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release

The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Vidswap.com Players of the Week for Week 9.

Offensive Players of the Week: Houston Lillard (QB, Tri-Cities Fever)

After dropping five straight games since an opening weekend win over the Wyoming Cavalry, the Tri-Cities Fever (2-5) defeated the Green Bay Blizzard (0-7) 73-62 on Saturday night. Rusty in his first two starts since rejoining the team, two-time All-IFL QB Houston Lillard returned to form against the Blizzard. For the game, Lillard completed 22 of 26 passes for 241 yards and 7 TDs, adding 41 yards on the ground. Lillard was able to spread the ball around, connecting with 5 different receivers on the night, 4 of which reached the end zone. If the Fever hope to get back into the Intense Conference playoff race, they will need consistent play from Lillard the rest of the season. The team faces a big test this weekend when they host the Colorado Ice in an important conference matchup.

Honorable Mention: Ryan Balentine (WR, Bemidji Axemen) Willie Copeland (QB, Colorado Ice) Ramonce Taylor (WR, Texas Revolution) Nate Wara (QB, Green Bay Blizzard)

Defensive Player of the Week: Jason Jones (DL, Colorado Ice)

Colorado Ice defensive lineman Jason Jones becomes the 5th member of the Ice to earn Player of the Week honors in 2014. This is the fourth consecutive week that the Ice have taken home an award. In Week 9, the Ice (5-2) defeated the Texas Revolution (2-4) 69-42, earning their 5th straight victory. Jones and the #3 ranked Ice defense (37.6 points per game), dominated the first half of the game (42-12) and never looked back. Jones applied consistent pressure to Texas signal callers, registering 5 tackles (4 for loss), and 3 sacks in the game. Next up for the Ice is a road trip to take on the Fever.

Honorable Mention: Donyaé Coleman (DB, Tri-Cities Fever) Montez Robinson (DL, Bemidji Axemen) Kyle Theret (DB, Sioux Falls Storm) Joe Thornton (LB, Colorado Ice)

Special Teams Player of the Week: Rockne Belmonte (K, Cedar Rapids Titans)

The Cedar Rapids Titans (6-1) edged the Bemidji Axemen (3-4), 60-57, in dramatic fashion on Saturday night. The Axemen led 57-55 and were in possession of the ball with 40 seconds remaining in the game. Facing a 3rd and 8 from their own 7 yard line, QB Cody Kirby took the snap, but received immediate pressure from DL Jermiah Price. Price tackled Kirby in the end zone for a safety, evening the score at 57. On the ensuing possession, the Titans completed a 10-yard pass to set up a game winning field goal attempt at midfield. K Rockne Belmonte drilled the 37 yarder, giving the Titans an improbable win, their 6th straight. For the game, Belmonte was 3-5 on FG attempts and a perfect 7-7 on PATs (16 points). For the season, Belmonte leads the League in; scoring (88 points), field goals made (17), and field goal percentage (65%). When teams are so evenly matched, as is the case in the IFL, consistency in the kicking game can prove to be the difference maker in most games. Belmonte is establishing himself as a valuable weapon for the Titans this year. In Week10, Cedar Rapids travels to Texas to take on the Revolution. The Revs handed the Titans their only loss of the season in Week 1.

Honorable Mention: Brady Beeson (K, Tri-Cities Fever) Robert Brown (KR, Cedar Rapids Titans) Harry Peoples (KR, Tri-Cities Fever) Zach Pulkinen (K, Bemidji Axemen)
