Week 7 Players of the Week Announced
April 15, 2015 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release
The Indoor Football League (IFL) is proud to announce the Week 7 Vidswap.com Players of the Week.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Kayne Farquharson (WR, Nebraska Danger)
In a battle of two 4-1 teams, the Nebraska Danger outmaneuvered the Cedar Rapids Titans, 52-42, in one of the IFL's great early season matchups. Danger WR Kayne Farquharson emerged as the team's number one offensive threat in the back-and-forth affair. The two-time All-IFL WR caught six passes for 112 yards and three touchdowns against the IFL's number one rated pass defense. Farquharson also became the first WR to have a 100-yard performance against the Titans in 12 games. Thus far in 2015, Farquharson has caught 21 passes for 252 yards. He also leads the IFL with 10 touchdown receptions. Farquharson and the Danger face off against the Iowa Barnstormers this weekend.
Honorable Mention: Robbie Nallenweg (QB, Iowa Barnstormers), Andrew Pierce (RB. Tri-Cities Fever), Donte Sawyer (WR, Green Bay Blizzard), Jameel Sewell (QB, Nebraska Danger)
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Troy Sanders (DB, Tri-Cities Fever)
The Tri-Cities Fever defeated the Bemidji Axemen 54-35 last weekend. Unfortunately, the game seemed to become a pyrrhic victory as the Fever lost two-time All-IFL quarterback Houston Lillard to a season-ending injury early in the first quarter. DB Troy Sanders emerged as a defensive leader for the Fever and his exceptional play helped the Fever move to a 4-2 record and second place in the Intense Conference standings. Sanders finished the game with 10 tackles, 1.5 for loss, one interception and one pass breakup. The Fever capitalized on Sanders' interception one play later for a touchdown. In Week 8, Tri-Cities hosts the Sioux Falls Storm in a rematch of the 2011 and 2012 United Bowls.
Honorable Mention: Austin Benson (LB, Iowa Barnstormers), Jake Kileen (DL, Tri-Cities Fever), Jermiah Price (DL, Cedar Rapids Titans), Armogen Walker (LB, Colorado Ice)
SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Javicz Jones (LB, Iowa Barnstormers)
The Iowa Barnstormers celebrated their first IFL home game with a high-scoring, action-packed affair against an old rival in the Green Bay Blizzard. In the IFL's highest scoring game this season, Iowa came out on top 75-64. Iowa scored a tremendous 32 points in the first quarter, in part to LB Javicz Jones' 41 yard kickoff return for a touchdown that gave Iowa an early 16 point lead. Jones finished the game with two kick returns for 41 yards. Jones also helped Iowa secure victory on defense. He finished the game with 10 tackles, including 1.5 for loss. The Iowa Barnstormers host their second home this weekend against the 5-1 Nebraska Danger.
Honorable Mention: Brady Beeson (K, Tri-Cities Fever), Rockne Belmonte (K, Cedar Rapids Titans), Mulku Kalokoh (KR, Bemidji Axemen), Deivon Tate (DB, Sioux Falls, Storm)
