Week 18 Team of the Week Announced

August 23, 2005 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release

TAMPA, FL - United Soccer Leagues announced the Week 18 USL First Division Team of the Week, honoring Rochester's Greg Howes as the Player of the Week.

Rhinos forward Greg Howes notched three goals this weekend as the Rhinos earned 2-2 ties against both the Puerto Rico Islanders and the league-leading Montreal Impact.

On Friday night, in a nationally televised game on Fox Soccer Channel, the Rhinos were deadlocked 1-1 with the Islanders until the 72nd minute when Howes found himself alone eight yards out and placed the Stoian Mladenov pass into the upper right hand corner of the goal, out of the reach of Puerto Rico's netminder Dan Kennedy. Only an 89th minute goal by the Islanders knotted the final score.

In a rain-soaked Saturday night match, the Rhinos were again tied 1-1, this time with the first-place Impact when Howes recorded an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute. His blast from just outside the box was too much for Impact ‘keeper and 2004 USL First Division Goalkeeper of the Year and MVP Greg Sutton.

Howes is a three-time USL First Division All-League Second Team selection (2000, 2003, 2004) and was the Rookie of the Year in 2000. Besides his current stint with the Rhinos, he has played for the Seattle Sounders (2000), Portland Timbers (2001-02) and Milwaukee Wave United (2003-04).
