USL exhibit to be unveiled during National Soccer Hall of Fame Induction Weekend

August 23, 2005 - USL First Division (USL-1) News Release

TAMPA, FL -- United Soccer Leagues is excited to announce that the USL Hall of Fame exhibit will be unveiled this weekend during the festivities surrounding the National Soccer Hall of Fame's Induction Weekend in Oneonta, NY.

The National Soccer Hall of Fame will host the 2005 Induction Weekend August 27th through 29th. On Sunday, August 28th, during the President's Reception and Dinner, the USL exhibit will be unveiled. USL Founder and President Francisco Marcos will be on-hand for the momentous occasion.

"The importance of the attachment of our USL Hall of Fame to the National Soccer Hall of Fame is to ensure that our story is told to the public, especially the American soccer community," commented Marcos. "But it is about much more than giving us a place in history, it is about helping to shape the future of the American game, establishing the traditions that the sport has created all over the world and which makes it so unique."

Located in Oneonta, NY, the National Soccer Hall of Fame opened a 30,000 square foot, state-of-the-art museum in 1999. The Hall of Fame tells the story of soccer in America through artifacts, photographs and video clips. Unique and rare artifacts on exhibit range from the world's oldest soccer ball to the FIFA Women's World Cup trophy won by the USA in 1999, Pelé's and Mia Hamm's uniforms, Kristine Lilly's golden shoes, NASL championship rings, the U.S. Open Cup's Dewar Trophy - it's all at the National Soccer Hall of Fame.

"We look forward to a long and fruitful relationship with the National Soccer Hall of Fame," said Marcos. "We hope that in helping the USL gain even more credibility, the National Soccer Hall of Fame itself gains the awareness and support of the extensive USL family. I urge all of them to make a pilgrimage to Oneonta and become part of the fabric of American soccer."

In the fall of 2005, USL will be celebrating its 20th anniversary. USL's historic evolution from its inception as the Southwest Indoor Soccer League in 1986 has undertaken numerous grand and imposing endeavors, including the launching of an outdoor league in a time when the success of such a venture was slim, and the introduction of an elite women's league. USL's Hall of Fame exhibit includes a personal letter from USL Founder and President Francisco Marcos, photographs and logos of all inducted USL Hall of Fame members and clubs, and a timeline of the history of the USL and it's leagues.
