June 17, 2011 - Indoor Football League (IFL) News Release


Richmond, VA: Week 17 for the Indoor Football League was full of strong competitions as some of the League's teams stake claims on playoff hopes and others' hopes faltered.

The Colorado ICE kicked off on Friday night for their last regular season game against the Arizona Adrenaline. Showing their strength heading into the off season the ICE left no chance for the Adrenaline. Letting them only score two touchdowns throughout the entire game. With this showing on defense, post-season teams should be reviewing film to see how they are going to attack the strong ICE who won 72-12.

The second game of Friday evening came to you straight from Green Bay, WI, where the Green Bay Blizzard hosted division rival the Chicago Slaughter. With both teams looking into the post season this game was sure to be a match up to remember. Fans would see a back and forth game with both QB's throwing for over 180 yards and two touchdowns. Although, with the Blizzard's strong push going into halftime with a score of 47-28 that would bog the Slaughter down and hold them to a loss at 65-48.

Saturday night began Week 17 with the La Crosse Spartans hosting the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks on Saturday evening. The Spartans and Steelhawks had a back and forth game, trading off on scoring. Heading into the final quarter of the game, the Spartans were in the lead by 5 points; however, the final moments of the game, the Steelhawks defense was able to get a pick-6, which appeared to seal the fate of the game. However, with just seconds left, running back LaRon Council of the La Crosse Spartans was able to return a kickoff for a touchdown earning the La Crosse Spartans a victory against the Lehigh Valley Steelhawks, 27-22.

The second game for Saturday evening was between Reading Express and Richmond Revolution. The Reading Express entered this game hoping to sweep the Revolution for the 2011 season, while the Revolution looked to prove they were able to be competitive in the Atlantic Division. Both teams had a very slow game. The defense for the two teams greatly stunted the productivity of the opposing offense; however, the Richmond Revolution was able to find greater success against the Express defense. The Richmond Revolution provided a great upset for the Reading Express by defeating the Express for the first time in the 2011 season, 21-14.

The Wyoming Cavalry visited the Nebraska Danger looking to enhance their stance as second in the Mountain West Division. Both teams started out very slowly; neither team was able to get on the scoreboard in the first quarter. During the second quarter, the Cavalry was able to take the lead scoring 3 touchdowns and a field goal, while only allowing 2 touchdowns for the Danger. Coming out of halftime, the game was still up in the air, and both teams had a great chance to take the win. The second half of the game belonged to the Danger. The Danger outscored the Cavalry in the third and fourth quarter, earning 8 more points total than the Cavalry in the second half. The efforts of the Nebraska Danger were strong, but not strong enough to overcome the 10 points lead established in the first half by the Wyoming Cavalry, who won Saturday evening's game, 46-44.

The next game of Week 17 was hosted by the West Texas Roughnecks with the Amarillo Venom visiting. The Venom was able to interrupt the Roughnecks offense very early in the game by earning a point with a rogue from the Roughnecks, and then close out the first quarter in the lead, 11-6. The second quarter both teams struggled getting on the board with the Venom going scoreless and the Roughnecks getting a field goal. The Venom was winning going into halftime; however, they only had a 2 point lead over the Roughnecks. In the third quarter, the Roughnecks came out strong. The Roughnecks defense was able to prevent the Venom from scoring, while giving the Roughnecks offense time on the field to score 2 touchdowns. During the final quarter of the game, the game was still up for grabs since the Venom only had to score 2 touchdowns to tie the game, which the Venom successfully did; however, the Venom defense was not able to prevent the Roughnecks from scoring 2 more touchdowns of their own, which gave the West Texas Roughnecks the win over the Amarillo Venom, 37-24.

Saturday evening the Bloomington Extreme stopped by the Wichita Wild. In the first quarter of the game, the teams were evenly matched only allowing one touchdown for each other. In the second quarter, the Wild quickly took over. The Wild defense only allowing the Extreme to manage a field goal; however, the Wild offense scored 2 touchdowns along with a field goal from early in the second quarter. Going into halftime the Wild lead the Extreme 24-10. The Wild defense became very disruptive in the third quarter by completely stunting any progress for the Extreme offense. The Wild scored 20 unanswered points until the Extreme was able to get a touchdown in the early minutes of the fourth quarter. In the fourth quarter, the Extreme fought back to cut down the Wild lead; however, in the final seconds of the game the Wichita Wild defense intercepted a pass for a touchdown, sealing the defeat of the Bloomington Extreme, 62-22.

The Omaha Beef hosted the Sioux Falls Storm hoping to be the first team to defeat the Storm in the 2011 season. From the beginning of the game the Storm dominated the Beef. In the first quarter, the Storm outscored the Beef 21-3. The Beef defense slowly began to stunt the Storm productivity while the Beef offense was able to chip away at the Storm lead. In the final moments of the game, it appeared that the Storm was going to continue with a perfect regular season; however, a missed field goal attempt was return by the Omaha Beef's Cortney Grixby for a touchdown with no time on the clock. This return gave the Beef, the season finale upset, 41-37.

One of our final games for Saturday evening would come out of Allen, TX. Where the Bricktown Brawlers made their final trip of the season to face the division leading 10-4 Wranglers. Wranglers continued to show that they were ready for the playoffs by showing no mercy on both sides of the ball. Holding the visiting Brawlers to only 6 points. The strong Allen team would prove ready for the playoffs as they continued to score to beat the Brawlers 85-6.

The final Sunday evening game was between the Tri-Cities Fever and the Seattle Timberwolves. The Fever quickly took the lead scoring 2 consecutive touchdowns in the first quarter; the Timberwolves were not on the board until there were 44 seconds left in the first quarter. In the second quarter both teams put up very strong numbers with the Fever getting 31 additional points, and the Timberwolves earning 25 more points. The Fever had the lead coming out of halftime, 45-32; however, the Timberwolves had an opportunity to come back and win it. However, in the second half the Fever maintained their dominance in the game. In the entire second half, the Fever scored 41 points while only allowing 27 points for the Timberwolves. The Tri-Cities Fever defeated the Seattle Timberwolves Sunday evening, 86-59.
