FRIDAY'S GAMES
MOHEGAN 63, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 53 (Attendance: 4,432): LAJHON JONES, Ironman of the Game, rushed for three touchdowns as the Wolves (10-5) claimed its first ever playoff berth by beating the Pioneers (6-9). MEL LONG caught two of GREG SMITH'S four touchdown passes. COSMO DEMATTEO hauled in 13 passes for 117 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Pioneers.
Hawaii 34, SAN DIEGO 26 (Attendance: 5,783): Game MVP DARNELL ARCENEAUX completed 18-of-27 for 205 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions in his first full game back from injury to lead the Islanders (10-5) past the Riptide (5-10). DARRICK BRANCH caught three passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns to leas the Islanders receiving corps. EDDIE KLANESKI earned ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors, recording a team-high 6.5 tackles and two interceptions for the Islanders.
SATURDAY'S GAMES
ALBANY 69, Rochester 63 (Attendance: 4,795): JAMIE WARE caught four passes, three for touchdowns to earn Game MVP honors while leading the Conquest (12-3) to its second straight Northeast Division title by bettering the Brigade (2-13). RYAN VENA continued his stellar season, passing for 337 yards and seven touchdowns. COREY HILL caught 10 of Vena's tosses for a team-high 156 yards and two scores. MARTINO THEUS led the Brigade with 13 catches for 169 yards and four touchdowns.
CAPE FEAR 48, Norfolk 41 (Attendance: 5,139): ANTHONY HINES, Game MVP, caught a single-game record 19 passes for 222 yards and six touchdowns to help the Wildcats (9-6) snap a four-game losing streak with a win over Norfolk (8-7). PHIL CRUMB added two interceptions for the Wildcats, who now need just one more win for a second straight Atlantic Division title. The Nighthawks got seven receptions for 106 yards and three touchdowns from TRAVIS BURNS.
Tulsa 43, LOUISVILLE 37 (Attendance: 11,888): CRAIG STRICKLAND, Game MVP, threw four touchdowns to four different receivers and rushed for another score to lead the Talons (12-3) against the Fire (5-11). TACOMA FONTAINE caught one of Strickland's touchdown passes, and he returned a kickoff 55 yards for a score in the third quarter. DEMONT SMITH tallied two interceptions for the Fire, who finished with its second best record in team history.
CHARLESTON 52, Columbus 36 (Attendance: 4,161): Game MVP LEROY MCFADDEN registered four receptions for 48 yards and two touchdowns as the Swamp Foxes (8-7) downed the Wardogs (4-11). JOE JUDGE returned a kickoff 56 yards for a score in the second quarter for the Foxes. Columbus' SHERARD POTEETE rushed for 29 total yards, becoming af2's first career 1,000-yard rusher.
Peoria 43, CINCINNATI 41 (Attendance: 3,248): JACK WALKER, Game MVP, stayed atop af2's top scorers by catching five passes for 40 yards and four touchdowns, as the Pirates (5-10) successfully avenged last week's loss to the Swarm (6-9). DAVID KNOTT picked off two passes for Peoria, earning ADT Defensive Player of the Game honors.
Macon 57, ARKANSAS 45 (Attendance: 8,547): JACQUES RUMPH caught 10 passes for a game-high 118 yards and three touchdowns as the Knights (9-6) upended the Twisters (8-7). Rumph also returned four kickoffs for 106 yards, including a long runback of 47 yards. ANTHONY SNEAD also eclipsed 100 yards receiving for the Knights, catching eight balls for 105 yards and one score. For the Twisters, KEVIN WILLIAMS caught three touchdown passes and LENNIE JOHNSON amassed 177 yards in kickoff returns, including a 55-yard touchdown run.
Florida 57, BIRMINGHAM 35 (Attendance: 5,349): Game MVP KEN MASTROLE completed 22-of-32 passes for 264 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Firecats (9-6) over the Steeldogs (7-8). MAGIC BENTON, Game Ironman, led the Firecats in receiving with eight passes for 101 yards and two scores. PERCY COLEMAN caught five passes for 63 yards to lead the Steeldogs.
Memphis 48, GREEN BAY 14 (Attendance: 2,788): Game MVP GEORGE WILLIAMS accounted for four of Memphis' six rushing touchdowns, as the Xplorers (6-9) ran past the Blizzard (2-13). TERRELL ADAMS caught a game-high 11 passes for 140 yards and one touchdown for Memphis, who set a team record for fewest points allowed. The Xplorers held Green Bay to 114 yards of total offense.
QUAD CITY 63, Tennessee Valley 34 (Attendance: 8,128): TONY ZIMMERMAN, Game MVP, broke MATT SAUK'S single season record for most touchdowns passes by throwing eight against Sauk's Vipers, as the Steamwheelers won its 13th straight game and busted Tennessee Valley's perfect season. Zimmerman, who now has 89 touchdown passes this season, 17-of-30 passes for 237 yards with no interceptions. IRA GOOCH led the 'Wheelers with eight receptions for 127 yards and four touchdowns, but JEFF HEWITT also tallied three touchdown receptions. The Vipers were held under 40 points for only the second time all season. The Vipers loss snapped a 10-game road winning streak.
