FRIDAY, JULY 16

Cape Fear Wildcats 47, MANCHESTER WOLVES 33 (Attendance: 7,130)

MANCHESTER, N.H. - The Cape Fear Wildcats (11-3) earned their 11th win of the season in a 47-33 victory over the Manchester Wolves (5-9) at the Verizon Wireless Arena. The Wolves entered the fourth quarter up by one point, but two touchdown runs by Keeon Johnson in the fourth quarter for Wildcats proved to be the difference in the game. Mike Gluski led the Wildcats to another victory by completing 25 of 36 passes for 266 yards and four touchdowns with two interceptions. All four of his touchdown passes went to different receivers. The Wolves' Chris Sanders threw three touchdown passes, and all three of his scoring throws went to different receivers. Robert Carey intercepted two passes for the Wolves to go along with his 10.5 tackles. Cape Fear's Mike Levy registered two tackles for a loss, one sack, a forced fumble and a fumble recovery.

Memphis Xplorers 64, ARKANSAS TWISTERS 46 (Attendance: 7,918)

NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - The Memphis Xplorers (8-6) outscored the Arkansas Twisters (1-12) in all four quarters to win 64-46 in front of 7,918 fans at Alltel Arena. Memphis' Michael Wall was almost perfect, completing 20 of 30 passes for 262 yards and seven touchdowns with zero interceptions. Ryan Karr caught four touchdown passes and Kevin Prentiss recorded the other three. Prentiss also scored on a 55-yard kickoff return for the Xplorers' second score of the game. Deumaine Reeder caught two passes for twelve yards, rushed for a three-yard touchdown and recorded an interception on defense. Kevin Williams recorded seven catches for 94 yards and three touchdowns for Arkansas. He also returned seven kickoffs back for 196 yards including a 56-yard return for a touchdown. He had to enter the game at quarterback when starter Travis Motley went out with an injury. Under center Williams completed three passes for 154 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions.

SATURDAY, JULY 17

WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON PIONEERS 55, Albany Conquest 31 (Attendance: 5,398)

WILKES-BARRE, Penn. - The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers (11-3) gave up only 12 points to the Albany Conquest (5-9) in the second half to win 55-31 at Wachovia Arena. Pioneers quarterback Tim Hicks had an excellent game, completing 23 of 36 passes for 235 yards and five touchdowns with zero interceptions. Rocco Forgione recorded two touchdown receptions and Leroy McFadden recorded the other three. Forgione also recorded a key interception in the third quarter to give the momentum to the Pioneers. Glester Thorpe recorded two sacks and Kyle Grove recorded two passes defended for the Pioneers defense. Tony Locke caught three passes for 32 yards and two touchdowns for the Conquest. Cy Butler recorded Albany's other passing touchdown. Rob Green recorded 7.5 tackles (5UA 5A) and three passes defended to lead the Conquest in both categories.

FLORIDA FIRECATS 67, Laredo Law 17 (Attendance: 4,554)

ESTERO, Fla. - Steve Gorrie rushed seven times for 26 yards to set a new af2 single season rushing record with 442 yards as the Florida Firecats (9-5) defeated the Laredo Law (3-11) 67-17 at Germain Arena. Gorrie also scored on two rushing touchdowns as did Chris Morant. Morant also picked up a blocked field goal and returned it 20 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter. Ken Mastrole completed 11 of 19 passes for 135 yards and three touchdowns with zero interceptions. Magic Benton caught four passes for 33 yards and two touchdowns. The Firecats defense held Laredo scoreless in the second half. Tanaka Scott and Anthony Snead both recorded interceptions for the Firecats defense. Snead also caught a touchdown pass on offense. Torrey Prather caught six passes for 62 yards and two touchdowns for the Law.

PEORIA PIRATES 58, Columbus Wardogs 40 (Attendance: 4,500)

PEORIA, Ill. - Jerald Burley caught five passes for 99 yards and three touchdowns to help the Peoria Pirates (8-6) defeat the Columbus Wardogs (6-8) 58-40 at the Peoria Civic Center. Peoria took control of the game in the first half with four consecutive scores to turn a tie game into a 28-point lead. In the second half the Pirates used their rushing game to control the clock and preserve the victory. Casey Urlacher rushed the ball twelve times for 57 yards and three touchdowns. Behind two Joe Peters sacks and a Kevin Brown interception the Peoria defense was strong, but Columbus' Kyle Rowley still completed 27 of 43 passes for 320 yards and five touchdowns with one interception. He also rushed from one-yard out for a touchdown. Rookie of the Year candidate Troy Bergeron recorded 14 receptions for 193 yards and two touchdowns.

Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz 62, WICHITA STEALTH 42 (Attendance: 3,344)

VALLEY CENTER, Kan. - Behind backup quarterback Joe Phears the Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz (10-5) defeated the Wichita Stealth (7-7) 62-42 at the Kansas Coliseum and secured a postseason berth. Phears was 14 of 24 for 280 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions and one rushing touchdown. Timon Marshall caught four passes for 73 yards and two touchdowns. Al Hunt caught one touchdown and ran for two more. Marshall and Hunt joined teammate Kris Peters with 1,000 yards receiving on the season. Oklahoma City became only the second af2 team to have three 1,000-yard receivers in one season. Wichita's Damon Thompson brought in six passes for 112 yards and two touchdowns. He also returned a missed field goal 55 yards for a touchdown. Oklahoma City hosts Tulsa next week in their final game of the season, as they have a bye in Week 18.

San Diego Riptide 50, GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 34 (Attendance: 3,433)

GREEN BAY, Wis. - Nakoa McElrath caught six passes for 105 yards and three touchdowns to help the San Diego Riptide (7-7) defeat the Green Bay Blizzard (5-9) 50-34 at the Resch Center. Jesus Reyes scored the only touchdown of the first quarter on a 49-yard catch and run in which he cut all the way across the field twice before finding open field to the endzone. The Riptide defense was strong, recording a safety and two fumble recoveries for touchdown. The first of these touchdowns by Rico Curtis was back breaker for the Blizzard. They were getting the ball back on a missed field goal only down three, when DeRonn Finley fumbled, giving San Diego a touchdown. Ryan Smith recorded an interception, seven solo tackles and five passes defended for the Riptide. Torrey Day caught six passes for 72 yards and three touchdowns for the Blizzard.

TULSA TALONS 66, Rio Grande Valley Dorados 60 (Attendance: 5,270)

TULSA, Okla. - The Tulsa Talons (11-3) won their eighth game in the row as they defeated the Rio Grande Valley Dorados (5-9) 66-60 at the Tulsa Convention Center. Bob Bees completed 15 of 27 passes for 259 yards and four touchdowns with zero interceptions as all four touchdown passes went to different receivers. Corky Martin rushed six times for 41 yards and three touchdowns. Rio Grande Valley fought tough after getting down 21-0 to start the game. The Dorados kept it close behind the arm of Abel Gonzalez who threw six touchdown passes. Craig Cole and Eric Spencer both caught two touchdown passes. Cole also recorded a rushing touchdown. Ronshay Jenkins returned a kickoff 56 yards for a touchdown. Shan Jordan recorded with 7.5 tackles (6UA 3A), .5 sack and a pass defended for the Tulsa defense.

TENNESSEE VALLEY VIPERS 40, Macon Knights 37 (Attendance: 5,124)

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - The Tennessee Valley Vipers (10-4) clinched the Mid-South Division in a 40-37 victory over the Macon Knights (3-11) at the Von Braun Center. The game was one of streaks. Tennessee Valley scored four of the first five touchdowns in the game to take a 26-6 lead. Macon then started a streak of their own as they scored the last touchdown of the first half on a Miacah Cooper 26-yard touchdown catch. This score started a 31-0 point streak and the Macon Knights held a 37-26 lead with eight minutes left in the game. The Vipers regrouped and scored a touchdown to be within three points. Macon's Jamaal Garman then fumbled the ensuing kickoff and the Vipers took advantage on a Marquis Floyd touchdown, which proved to be the game winner. Sterling Hayward caught seven passes for 97 yards and three touchdowns for Macon. Jerrian James caught four touchdown passes on ten catches for 95 yards.

QUAD CITY STEAMWHEELERS 56, Birmingham Steeldogs 22 (Attendance: 5,795)

MOLINE, Ill. - Behind five rushing touchdowns, including three by Ronnie Gordon, the Quad City Steamwheelers (9-6) topped the Birmingham Steeldogs (9-5) 56-22 at The Mark. Birmingham scored the first touchdown of the game on a Demontray Carter two-yard run. Then the Steamwheelers got rolling, scoring the next 37 points. Birmingham next scored in the third quarter on a Carlos McNeary 56-yard kickoff return. Quad City then scored the next three touchdowns before Birmingham scored the last touchdown of the game. Chazz Moore recorded an interception and two fumble recoveries for the Steamwheelers defense. Quad City brought unrelenting pressure, hitting Birmingham quarterback Jeff Aaron sixteen times. Marlon Bush registered 1.5 tackles for a loss for the Steeldogs defense. Jamaal Cherry and Billy Cook caught Ronnie Gordon's two touchdown passes.

BAKERSFIELD BLITZ 45, Central Valley Coyotes 19 (Attendance: 5,221)

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Chad Elliott completed 17 of 31 passes for 197 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions to guide the Bakersfield Blitz (10-4) over the Central Valley Coyotes (1-13) 45-19 at the Centennial Garden. Six different players scored Bakersfield's seven touchdowns. Eric Mahanke caught eight passes for 93 yards and one touchdown for the Blitz. LaMonte Jones recorded three catches for 47 yards and two touchdowns for the Coyotes. Clint Merz came up with two sacks for the Coyotes on defense. Bakersfield's Kevin Carroll had two sacks and a forced fumble. Ben McCombs registered 1.5 tackles for a loss, including half of one sack. He also scored a rushing touchdown on offense for the Blitz. Bakersfield took control of the game on two stretches in which the scored three consecutive touchdowns. The win helped the Blitz clinch a playoff berth.

HAWAIIAN ISLANDERS 62, Louisville Fire 59 (Attendance: 3,746)

HONOLULU - Islanders quarterback Shawn Withy-Allen had a night to remember as he led the Hawaiian Islanders (8-6) to a 62-59 victory over the Louisville Fire (8-6). Withy-Allen completed 24 of 33 passes for 326 yards and five touchdowns with zero interceptions. He also rushed five times for 48 yards and two touchdowns. His 374 total yards was a team record, as was his 24 completions and .792-completion percentage. Nian Taylor caught eleven passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns. Withy-Allen found Anthony Arceneaux for a 19-yard touchdown with 36 second left in the game to give the Islanders the victory. For Louisville, Matt Sauk completed 26 of 35 passes for 359 yards and four touchdowns with no interceptions. James Scott caught nine passes for 168 yards and three touchdowns. Tony Stallings rushed for three touchdowns for the Fire.
