Week 12 Preview: Lizards at BayHawks
July 8, 2015 - Major League Lacrosse (MLL)
New York Lizards News Release
The New York Lizards head down to Annapolis, Maryland to battle the Chesapeake Bayhawks to preserve their first place spot and league-best 8-2 record heading into the game. The last matchup saw New York come out on top of the Bayhawks in a close game, 15-14.
Week 11 saw the Lizards drop just their second game of the season to the Florida Launch, 16-12. The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the Launch ultimately coming out on top. The Lizards look to take that game and use it as extra firepower against the Bayhawks.
Greg Gurenlian went 20 for 30 at the faceoff 'X' winning 66% of his draws for the game. Gurenlian also had a game high 14 ground balls on the day. During the game, Gurenlian also broke his single-season record for ground balls. He now has 131 on the season.
Drew Adams had 17 saves on the day, bringing his total to 148 on the season. In addition, JoJo Marasco had 4 points on the night, all coming from goals. Ryan Walsh contributed three goals, and Rob Pannell had two goals one helper on the evening.
What to Look Out For
The Quest to 100 Wins
Despite the outcome of the game against Launch, the New York Lizards hold 99 regular season wins throughout their 15-year history. The Lizards only need one more win to break their 100-win milestone.
The Return of Spallina and Rabil
After a one game suspension, defenseman Brian Spallina is returning to take the field for the Lizards against the Bayhawks this week. Spallina rejoins a Lizards defense that allowed 16 goals during his absence. Paul Rabil is being evaluated this week during practice and could make his return against Chesapeake on Thursday evening as well.
Looking Ahead
After the upcoming game against Chesapeake, the Lizards will host the Denver Outlaws on July 9th. The matchup will be the first between the two teams this season. The Lizards currently sit in first place, with the Outlaws in part of a three-way tie for fourth in the standings. The first 1,000 fans in attendance will receive an exclusive Rob Pannell poster upon admittance to the stadium.
