Boston Cannons News Release
BOSTON, MA (July 8, 2015) - Today, the Boston Cannons of Major League Lacrosse (MLL), the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, are announcing a partnership with You Can Play Project. You Can Play is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to ensuring the inclusion, respect, and safety for all athletes. The Cannons are the first team in Major League Lacrosse to host a You Can Play night.
On July 11th, the Cannons will host their first You Can Play Night, and for each ticket sold through this link, $3 will be donated to the You Can Play Project. The tickets are being offered at a discounted rate through the link. The Cannons will be sharing in game videos and information for fans to learn more throughout the game.
"The Cannons are very proud to partner with the You Can Play Project, says Cannons Vice President and GM Kevin Barney. "The league has begun a relationship with them, and we are excited to elevate that relationship with the likes of the NHL, MLS, NFL, and more in order to support a really great organization like You Can Play. The Cannons will continue to make our organization a safe and inviting place for our athletes on and off the field."
Last month, You Can Play along with partners such as the LacrosseAllStars.com, organized a special lacrosse event called, the "Courage Game" in Philadelphia. Event co-organizer, Andrew Goldstein, was a Division I lacrosse player and a former MLL player, originally drafted by the Boston Cannons. The purpose of the Courage Game was promote awareness of LGBT inclusion and, in particular, to support a young boy named Braeden, who courageously came out at 12 years old.
"We are proud to partner with the Boston Cannons, and we applaud their efforts to plan a You Can Play Night. By hosting a You Can Play event and partnering with You Can Play, the Cannons will undoubtedly have a profound impact on young lacrosse players throughout the world," says Executive Director Wade Davis.
Throughout the year, the Boston Cannons (athletes, coaches and front office staff) will work together with You Can Play to help educate and create a respectful culture for LGBT athletes, coaches, and fans.
