Week 12 Players of the Week Announced

The Indoor Football League announced the Week 12 Players of the Week on Tuesday, July 13. Massachusetts Pirates wide receiver Thomas Owens earned his second Offensive Player of the Week honor of the 2021 season, Arizona Rattlers defensive lineman Josh Gordon claimed Defensive Player of the Week, and Spokane Shock kicker Sawyer Petre was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
THOMAS OWENS - OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Wide receiver Thomas Owens received his second Offensive Player of the Week nod after his dominant performance against the Bismarck Bucks. Owens had eight receptions for a season-high 147 yards and three touchdowns. It didn't take long for Owens to make his presence felt, as the Pirates scored on their first offensive play of the game when QB Alejandro Benefield connected with Owens on a 27-yard touchdown pass. Owens leads the league in yards per game, averaging 71.9 yards, and total receptions with 46 on the year.
JOSH GORDON - DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Defensive lineman Josh Gordon received his first Defensive Player of the Week award after leading a Rattler defense that held the Northern Arizona Wranglers to just 16 points in the game. Gordon finished the game with six total tackles, including 3.5 tackles for a loss, and recorded 1.5 sacks. Gordon got his first sack on the second possession of the game and set the tone early for the defense, which would hold the Wranglers to just 59 yards rushing and only gave up two touchdowns the entire game.
SAWYER PETRE - SPECIAL TEAMS PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kicker Sawyer Petre was named the Special Teams Player of the Week for the first time this season and showed off his leg power against the Sioux Falls Storm. Petre knocked in three field goals along with five PATs and drilled a deuce late in the fourth quarter to extend the Shock's lead and ultimately seal the game.
Owens and the Pirates will prepare to host Josh Gordon and the Rattlers on Sunday, July 18, at 12:05 p.m. CT. Petre and the Shock will take on the Tucson Sugar Skulls on Saturday, July 17, at 8 p.m. CT.
