Fayetteville Patriots News Release

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C., September 10, 2002 – Fayetteville Patriots president Amy Perko announced today that WAZZ 1490 AM out of Fayetteville will be the Patriots' official flagship station for the 2002-2003 season.

The station will broadcast all 50 Patriots regular-season games. The local radio personality Alan Smothers will return to do play-by-play for the Patriots. WAZZ 1490 AM is owned and operated by Beasley Broadcasting. The station, based in Fayetteville, reaches Southern Pines and surrounding areas.

"The Patriots are excited to be working with WAZZ to broadcast all 50 regular season games to our growing fan base in the Cape Fear region," Perko said.

The Patriots season starts Nov. 15 at home against the Asheville Altitude. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Season-ticket plans start as low as $56. The Patriots' season-ticket package includes a 13-game plan and a 7-game plan. Group tickets are also available at discounted prices.

Last season WAZZ carried the Charlotte Hornets. The station still carries Atlanta Braves baseball, NASCAR, Appalachian State basketball and football and Campbell basketball.

"We are very pleased to be affiliated with the Fayetteville Patriots and the NBDL because it allows us to continue our affiliation with the NBA on a more local basis,'' said WAZZ program manager Mac Edwards. "With the excitement and entertainment the Patriots bring to the area, we feel the relationship will be beneficial for both the Patriots and WAZZ. We're both excited and happy to be their flagship station."

The Patriots also announced a schedule move. The team's March 18 home game against the Roanoke Dazzle has been moved to March 17 to make room for the Harlem Globetrotters.
