August 16, 2005 - World TeamTennis (WTT) News Release
NEW YORK (Aug. 16, 2005) - Wayne Bryan, coach of the Sacramento Capitals, has been named 2005 World TeamTennis (WTT) Coach of the Year. The charismatic Capitals coach earned his second consecutive Coach of the Year award after leading Sacramento to a League best 11-3 record and a Western Conference Championship.
"This award just doesn't belong to me," said Bryan. "Our team came together each night and worked hard, it belongs to all of us. I'm extremely honored to have this award and proud of my players for the dedication they put forth each night."
Next up for Coach Bryan and his Capitals is the WTT Finals weekend, Sept. 16-17 at Allstate Stadium at Sunrise MarketPlace, Citrus Heights, Calif. The Capitals will vie for a spot in the finals for a chance to win their sixth WTT Championship. The opening round will feature semifinal play, as the Capitals face the Newport Beach Breakers in what will be a re-match of last year's semifinal victory by the Breakers. This will mark Bryan's fourth consecutive appearance, all with the Capitals, in the WTT post-season. His other two appearances, the first in 2002, resulted in the Capitals' winning their fifth championship, while in 2003, that Capitals fell short to the Delaware Smash in the finals.
In addition to his WTT coaching duties, Bryan is also a frequent national speaker and clinician along with being father to the No. 1 doubles team on the ATP tour, Bob and Mike Bryan. He recently published a book, "The Formula, Raising Your Child to be a Champion in Athletics, Arts and Academics."
