Wave's Dusosky and Schmidt named MISL Players of the Week
December 12, 2005 - Major Indoor Soccer League 2 (MISL 2)
Milwaukee Wave News Release
MILWAUKEE, WI (December 12, 2005) - The Major Indoor Soccer League announced today that Milwaukee Wave forward, Todd Dusosky, has been named the league's Offensive Player of the Week while defender, Matt Schmidt, was named the league's Defensive Player of the Week. Dusosky becomes the second Wave player to be named Offensive Player of the Week (Greg Howes was the other) and Schmidt is the fourth member of Milwaukee's defense to receive the award (Lovelace Ackah, Troy Dusosky and Chad Dombrowski were the others).
Dusosky, a 10 year veteran, had an outstanding weekend as he was involved in half of the team's goals in games against Philadelphia (Friday) and at Baltimore (Saturday). He got the Wave on the board first against the KiXX and assisted on the second goal of the game before setting up his brother, Troy, for the contest's final score. In a matchup of the league's first and second place teams on Saturday, Dusosky finished with three assists in Milwaukee's 7-5 victory over Baltimore. In all, his six points put him in a three way tie for second place in the league's scoring race. He's the league's leading assist man, with 10.
Schmidt, a 26-year-old Milwaukee native, continues to have a fantastic year as part of Milwaukee's great defensive group. The Yale grad scored two goals (including the game winner) and blocked two shots against Philadelphia on Friday. He followed that performance with a goal and four blocks against the Blast on Saturday night. His tally closed out the scoring and gave the Wave a two goal edge over Baltimore. Schmidt leads the league with 15 blocks and is fifth on the Wave with six points (five goals and one assist) on the season.
Both Dusosky and Schmidt have been key contributors to a Wave team that has tied a franchise best 7-0 start to the season. Milwaukee is allowing the fewest goals in the league at 3.4 per contest and they're averaging the second most goals per game at 6.6. The Wave will try to break their record for most consecutive wins to open the season on December 31 against the California Cougars.
The MISL also named their Goalkeeper of the Week on Monday. The St. Louis Steamers' Bayard Elfvin took home the award for his role in a 6-3 Steamers victory over the California Cougars. Elfvin picked up his first victory of the season in his first start and stopped nine of 12 shots.
The Wave will play a school-day exhibition game on December 21 at 10:35 a.m. against the Premier Arena Soccer League All-Stars (PASL). League play resumes on December 31 at 1:05 p.m. against the California Cougars. Take advantage of the Piggly Wiggly Family Four Pack on New Year's Eve where you can get four $14 tickets, four hot dogs and four sodas for $50. For more information on tickets, please call the Wave office at 414-224-WAVE (9283); groups of 10 or more can receive discounted rates. The game can be heard on www.MilwaukeeWave.com.
