Milwaukee Wave United News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team improved its preseason record to 3-0 with a pair of wins against state college teams this past weekend. Coach Art Kramer's team topped UW-Parkside 6-0 Saturday (4/24) in Kenosha before beating UW-Madison 5-1 Sunday (4/25) at Uihlein Soccer Park.
"Our emphasis in training has been on the defensive side of the ball and we were pleased with our overall defensive execution, only allowing one goal in three games," said Kramer.
Goalkeeper Brad Swemby recorded the shutout at UW-Parkside, while Jeff Richey, who is coming off an impressive 2003 campaign (8-1, 0.94 GAA) allowed just one second half goal against UW-Madison.
Forward Digital Takawira enjoyed a sensational weekend by scoring six of Wave United's eleven goals in the two games. The nine-year North American professional (KC Wizards 1996-99, Milwaukee 2000-Present) tallied twice against the Rangers on Saturday before lighting up the Badgers for four goals on Sunday. The 31-year old Zimbabwe native, who had six goals and four assists for Wave United in 2003 (16 pts.) has now registered eight goals during the 2004 preseason.
Nick Walls, Branko Savic, Mike Mielke, and Johanes Mailza also scored at Parkside, while Sam Sloma added a goal against the Badgers.
"Although virtually every player performed well offensively, there's no doubt that Digital was the star of the show," said Kramer.
Milwaukee continues preseason play this Wednesday at Uihlein Soccer Park (4/28) when it entertains Marquette in a 5 PM match. Wave United will also take on UW-Milwaukee on Friday (4/30) in another 5 PM kick-off at Uihlein.
Wave United opens its second A-League campaign on Friday, May 14, 7:05 PM when it hosts the Edmonton Aviators at Uihlein Soccer Park. Call the Wave / Wave United Office at 414-224-WAVE (9283) for tickets or more information, or visit www.milwaukeewaveunited.com.
