Last Week's Recap:

Fri. 7/18 @ Indiana Blast 3, Wave United 1 Attendance: 1,873

Indiana avenged an earlier 4-0 loss at Milwaukee (6/29) by defeating Wave United 3-1 in front of 1,873 fans at Kuntz Stadium in Indianapolis. The Blast scored the first goal of the match just before halftime (43rd minute) when Jamar Beasley converted on a breakaway against goalkeeper Jim Larkin. Larkin made the initial save on Beasley's shot only to have it deflect off defender Josh Timbers into the goal. Rodrigo Costa's free kick conversion in the 60th minute increased the Blast lead to 2-0 and proved to be the eventual game-winner. Milwaukee was kept off the scoreboard until second half stoppage time when Dino Delevski converted a penalty kick to make it 2-1. Indiana then tallied again just before the final whistle when Jeff Dresser scored on a one v. one against Larkin after Wave United had sent everybody forward to try to get the tying goal. Armando Femia was the defensive man-of-the-match for Indiana, making several spectacular saves among the 10 he recorded.

Sat 7/19 @ Cincinnati Wave United 3, Riverhawks 2 Attendance: 407

Wave United outlasted the Riverhawks 3-2 in a game that featured numerous breakaways and high quality scoring chances for both clubs. Rookie forward Nick Walls provided the game-winner in the 79th minute as he scored on Cincinnati goalkeeper Matt Reid after receiving a beautiful pass down the middle from Dino Delevski. Wave United goalkeeper Jeff Richey, who making just his second start in 2003, preserved the win with a sensational stop on Riverhawks forward Jason Cole in the 88th minute when he robbed Cole from 10 yards out. Although Richey remains undefeated for his two-year career (4-0) he did have his regular season scoreless minutes streak broken (314 minutes from the start of his career) when Cincinnati's Juan Sastoque scored in the 13th minute. Sastoque's goal had leveled the score following Greg Howes' tally in the 9th minute that had initially put Milwaukee in front. The teams traded another pair of goals before Walls' game-winner, the first goal of his professional career.

Notes: *Milwaukee's 3-2 win @ Cin on 7/19 was the 100th regular season win in Milwaukee A-League history.

*Dino Delevski's penalty kick goal on 7/18 @ Ind. was Milwaukee's first PK attempt this season. Wave United has yielded just one PK attempt, an unsuccessful try by Minnesota's Johnny Torres in the season opener (5/16).

*Rookie defender Joe Hammes (Cedarburg, WI / St. Louis U.), who did not play in the season opener v. Min on 5/16, has played every minute of every game (1353 minutes) since. He tops the club in minutes played followed by Matt Schmidt (1340) and John Ball (1321).

*Rookie defender Steve Lawrence (Brookfield, WI / Marquette U.) is expected to return to the lineup after missing last weekend's action to a personal commitment (sister's wedding). He had started and played nearly every minute of the previous 10 games.
