Wave United signs Matt Miller

(Milwaukee, WI) Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team announced today that is has signed defender / midfielder Matt Miller to a two-year contract. The 22-year old Mequon native, who played collegiately at Dartmouth University, is entering his first season of professional soccer.

The 5-11, 175 lb. Miller was originally drafted by the Wave indoor team in the third round of the 2003 Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL) amateur draft. He spent two weeks working out with the Wave in January before returning to finish his senior year at Dartmouth. Miller recently graduated from the Hanover, NH institution with a bachelor's degree in English.

Prior to attending Dartmouth, Miller was an all-state performer at Milwaukee Marquette High School, where he played for current Wave United Assistant Coach Bob Spielmann. He becomes the fourth ex-Hilltopper to join Wave United including Matt Schmidt (Yale), Joe Hammes (St. Louis University), and Steve Lawrence (Marquette University).

"It's nice to get a chance to play for a pro team in my hometown," said Miller. "I'm looking forward to playing with some my former (Marquette High School) teammates again as well as the opportunity to work with Coach Spielmann again."

Said Wave United Head Coach Art Kramer, "Matt is another home-grown prospect that we feel is ready to compete at the next level. He'll be a valuable addition in terms of depth in our back line and our midfield."

Wave United departs for El Paso tomorrow (6/19) as it prepares for an important two-game series against the Patriots at the Sun Bowl. The first game will take place Friday (6/20) at 8:35 PM CST, with the second game set for Sunday (6/22) at 7:05 PM CST. Milwaukee is currently fourth in the Central Division with a record of 4-3-0 (12 points) while El Paso is second in the division with a mark of 5-5-2 (17 points). Both games will be broadcast live on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word"), with air time for each broadcast 20 minutes prior to kickoff.
