Wave United signs Josh Timbers

(Milwaukee, WI) Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team announced today that it has signed midfielder Josh Timbers to a two-year contract beginning with the upcoming 2003 season. The 28-year old Timbers resumes his professional soccer career after a three previous seasons with the Wave indoor team (1998-2001) and four seasons with the Rampage outdoor squad (1997-2000)
A native of Morganton, NC, Timbers originally came to Milwaukee to play for the Rampage (the team Wave United is replacing in the A-League) following an outstanding career at Wake Forest University. The 5-9, 170 lb. midfielder was a member of Milwaukee's 1997 A-League championship squad and went on to spend three more seasons with the club. Timbers was also a key contributor on two of the Wave's championship teams (1999-2000, 2000-01) and was a member of the league's All-Rookie Team during the 1998-99 season.
"It's been really difficult to watch from the stands or on TV, so I've decided to lace up my boots once again," said Timbers, who played his last professional game on May 11, 2001 in the Wave's 10-8 win at Philadelphia that clinched Milwaukee's last indoor title.
"We're excited that Josh has decided to resume his professional soccer career," said Wave United Coach Art Kramer. "We feel with the right focus he has plenty of years left to play."
Wave United opens its season by hosting the Minnesota Thunder on Friday, May 16, 7:05 PM at Uihlein Soccer Park. Wave United will also entertain the defending Major League Soccer (MLS) champion Los Angeles Galaxy in an exhibition match on Sunday, May 18, 4:05 PM at Uihlein. Regularly priced tickets for the two games are: $12 / $8 (adult general admission / youth general admission) for the May 16 Minnesota game and all other regular season A-League contests; and $18 / $12 for the May 18 Los Angeles game. A special Wave United Opening Weekend package is available for $25 / $16, with exclusive access to the post-game autograph session on May 18 limited to Opening Weekend package holders.
