Milwaukee Wave United News Release
(Milwaukee, WI) Milwaukee Wave United, the Wave's A-League (outdoor) team is getting ready for one of its most challenging road trips of the season as it prepares to face Central Division rival El Paso this Friday (6/20, 8:35 PM CST) and Sunday (6/22, 7:05 PM CST) at the Sun Bowl in El Paso, TX. Wave United and the Patriots will be squaring off in the first two games of a four game season series that also includes a pair at Milwaukee on July 25 and July 27. Coach Art Kramer's team will be looking to bounce back from a 3-0 home loss to Rochester that broke Milwaukee's previous two-game winning streak.
Although it's still early in the 2003 campaign, the results from these two matches could have notable implications on the Central Division playoff race. (The top two teams in the division will qualify for the post-season.) Wave United is currently fourth in the division with a record of 4-3-0 (12 points) and could overtake the Patriots (5-5-2, 17 points) with a pair of wins. On the other hand, a pair of El Paso victories would provide the second place Patriots with an 11-point cushion over Milwaukee that would be very difficult for Wave United to make up. Regardless of what happens, the two teams should provide the fans in El Paso with a pair of intense battles on the artificial pitch at the Sun Bowl. The term "hotly contested" should also have literal application to the proceedings, with game time temperatures expected to be around 90 degrees. Both games will be broadcast live on 540 AM, WRRD ("The Word") with air time for each broadcast 20 minutes prior to kick-off.
Some other notes about the upcoming match-up:
*Wave United is 2-0 on the road, with both wins coming at Minnesota, the current Central Division leader at 7-4-0 (21 points).
*The Patriots are 0-1-1 thus far on a seven game homestand. El Paso lost to Portland 3-1 on 6/7 before battling to a scoreless draw with Seattle on 6/13. The Patriots overall home record is 3-2-1.
