PHILADELPHIA (March 29, 2008) - Greg Howes' dramatic third goal, a restart from the top of the penalty arc with 9:44 remaining in overtime, gave the Milwaukee Wave a 15-13 victory over the Philadelphia KiXX at the Wachovia Spectrum on Saturday night.
The victory keeps the Wave (20-7) tied atop the MISL standings, and sets up Sunday's colossal showdown with Detroit at 2 p.m. at the U.S, Cellular Arena.
Saturday's winning play was set up when Drew Kopp headed the ball out of bounds from his own defensive end. The Wave relied on one of their favorite plays, with two players running over the ball from opposite angles before Howes - the league's leading scorer with 114 points - ripped the ball past Peter Pappas to end the game.
Howes' goal rescued the Wave from wasting an 11-7 lead in the fourth quarter. After Philadelphia tied it up, Brett Wiesner's second goal gave Milwaukee an advantage with just 3:08 to but. But Philadelphia brought on a sixth attacker, and Sandre Naumoski tied it up with just 26 seconds to go.
Milwaukee needs to win just one of its last three games to clinch a bye in the MISL playoffs.
