Rochester Brigade News Release
(Rochester, NY)- Rochester Brigade head coach and general manager Mark Saunders announced that the team would be without OL/DL Willie Watson for at least the next four to six weeks.
Watson, who proved to be one of the team's top linemen this season, will be put on long term IR with a broken left foot. The injury occurred last week against the Richmond Speed. On the season, Watson has registered 12.5 tackles (ten solo), 4.5 tackles for a loss of 17-yards (tied for eighth in league), 2.5 sacks, one pass breakup, one quarterback hurry and one forced fumble. If all goes well, Watson will be able to return at the end of the season to contribute his talent in the playoffs.
"Its unfortunate...Willie (Willie Watson) has been playing real well and was finding his stride in the arena game," stated Saunders. "Hopefully we'll have him back at the end of the regular season for our playoff run."
Brigade WR/DB Derek Baker continues to show improvement from a head and spinal injury that he suffered back on June 1, against the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Pioneers. Baker suffered a concussion when he collided head first into the boards. Although he is feeling healthy, he is showing signs that are consistent with a spinal cord contusion. Baker has received Neuro Psychological Testing ever since the injury; however, the extent will not be diagnosed until he undergoes an EMG (Electric Mio Gram) on the 25th of June.
This week the Brigade looks to end a two game losing streak as they head on the road to face the Greensboro Prowlers on Saturday, June 15, for a 7:30 kickoff. Catch all of the action with the voice of Brigade JC DeLass on WYSL 1040 AM or on the web at www.wysl1040am.com.
The Brigade returns home next Thursday, June 20, to face first place Albany Conquest in the deciding game of the "NYS Lottery af2 Cup." The series is currently tied at a game apiece with both teams winning on the road. The Conquest took the first meeting 42 to 36 on April 13, but the Brigade took the second meeting 32 to 24 on April 27. To reserve your tickets contact the Brigade office at 585-292-1530, or checkout the team's website at www.rochesterbrigade.com.
