Brooklyn Aviators News Release
DANBURY, Conn. - The Brooklyn Aviators avenged a tough loss last Saturday to the Danbury Whalers with a 9-2 rout of their own on Thursday night at the Danbury Ice Arena in Federal Hockey League action.
Chase Watson recorded his first hat trick of the season while Jesse Felten chipped in with two goals of his own to fuel Brooklyn's offense in the victory.
Watson put the Aviators on the board first just 1:42 into the opening period after his wrist shot beat Whalers netminder Peter Vetri under the blocker. The former Providence College standout skated in on a 2-on-1, elected to shoot and buried the puck from the left wing circle for his fourth goal of the season. Felten quickly doubled Brooklyn's lead, 2-0, on his 19th marker of the year 2:10 later as he roofed Watson's pass over the left shoulder of Vetri. Watson recorded his second of the night, and the period, with a wrist shot from the point on the power play at the 7:08 mark.
Brooklyn continued to find the back of the net in the second period, as Felten collected his second goal of the contest - on the man advantage - 3:58 into the frame. Linemate Mike Thomson slid the puck across the crease to Felten and he tapped home the easy back door pass to put the A's on top 4-0.
Chris Seifert broke the scoreless slide for Danbury 2:21 into the third period on a rebound goal in front of A's goalie Jo St. Pierre for his 16th marker of the year to cut the deficit to 4-1. Watson completed the hat trick for Brooklyn at the 9:07 mark after his blast beat Vetri from the center point, while forwards Nick Petriello, Joe Dabkowski, Casey Mignone, and Lucas Schott provided the insurance with late tallies.
St. Pierre recorded the win after stopping 18 shots, while Vetri is charged with the loss after making 47 saves.
The Aviators return to action tomorrow night when they take on the Whalers at the Aviator Sports and Events Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 7:35 p.m. and can be watched live via the Aviators broadcast network powered by LiveSportsVideo.com.
