Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Week in Review

The Black Hawks enjoyed an unexpected day off to celebrate the victory during their lone game last weekend. Friday evening, Waterloo topped Sioux Falls on the road 4-3 in overtime. Ryan Papa scored the decisive goal after Mark Naclerio notched a goal and assist during regulation. Eamon McAdam recorded the win with 49 saves. The Hawks' Saturday game was postponed due to hazardous travel conditions for the Lincoln Stars.

Canadian Connection

Canadian forwards Aaron Pearce and Scott MacDonald have spent a lot of time on the ice together in recent weeks, and both have been playing well. During Waterloo's current three-game win streak, MacDonald has five goals, an assist, and a +4 rating. Pearce has two goals, an assist, and is +5 over the same span. Pearce has been even or positive for the past eight consecutive games, with a plus/minus of +12 in that time.

Out of the Gates

Although the Black Hawks allowed a goal just 54 seconds into Friday's game against the Sioux Falls Stampede, Waterloo has doubled opponents' early goals this season. The Hawks have outscored opposing teams 10-5 cumulatively in the first five minutes of regulation. Against the Stampede, Waterloo recovered from the early tally-against when Aaron Pearce flipped in a shot at 2:28.

Unheralded Hawk

The acquisition of Danny Elser did not capture headlines like the trades last week for Stephon Williams or Alex Barron. Elser was quietly added to the Black Hawks roster earlier this season and debuted Friday, notching an assist in his first USHL game. Elser is a veteran of Canadian major junior hockey, playing most recently for the Moncton Wildcats. He has also skated for the London Knights and Belleville Bulls. The 18-year-old's older brother Brian is currently a sophomore for Division-III's Manhattanville College in Purchase, New York.

Traveling in Style

Friday's victory in Sioux Falls gives the Hawks' a 10-7-2 road record this season. The ten wins match Waterloo's total from all of 2010-2011. If the Hawks manage to claim six of their eleven remaining road games, it would be the club's most successful set of road results since 2007-2008. Waterloo is away from home for all three games this week, but is not scheduled to play more than two consecutive road contests after that.
