Waterloo Black Hawks News Release

Pavelski USHL's Offensive Player of the Week

Scott Pavelski had three goals and four assists in three Black Hawk games last week. The impressive run led the USHL to name him the league Offensive Player of the Week. Pavelski's big game came Saturday against Fargo, when he scored the game-winning goal shorthanded. The three-point night was a new single-game high in Pavelski's Black Hawks career. He is the second Black Hawk to receive Player of the Week honors; the league named Lee Moffie Defensive Player of the Week on October 27th.

Jersey Auction for Veterans

The Black Hawks would like to thank everyone who bid on Military Appreciation Night jerseys Saturday, along with Tyson Fresh Meats for their sponsorship of the uniforms. The post-game auction raised net proceeds of nearly $11,000. Those funds will be distributed among local veterans groups. Last season, Quilts for Heroes, AMVETS, the American Legion, and Iowa's Bravest were among the organizations benefiting from the Hawks' Military Jersey Night.

High-Scoring Affairs

Scoring is up so far this season in the USHL. The opening weeks of 2008-2009 have seen an average of 6.8 goals per game. Last season, the figure was 6.2. The Hawks have been contributing to the increase, scoring 56 times in 14 games (four per game). That is the highest total and highest per-game average in the USHL.

Doubling Up

The Hawks will have the opportunity to get familiar with their next several opponents. This weekend, Waterloo meets Tri City for back-to-back games. Next week, the Black Hawks play a home-and-home series with Cedar Rapids on back-to-back nights. Then it's Green Bay for consecutive games, first in Waterloo, then at the Resch Center. The only other occasions when Waterloo plays the same team twice in-a-row are in mid-January at Fargo, then at the end of the season, March 28th and April 3rd versus Des Moines.
