Waterloo Black Hawks News Release
Rare Hat Trick
Hat tricks like the one Eriah Hayes recorded Friday have not been plentiful in recent seasons. Billy Maday was the only Black Hawk with a three-goal game last season. In fact, the Hawks have had only one hat trick in each of the prior five seasons. The last time Waterloo enjoyed more than a single hat trick in a season was 2002-2003 when there were three. Hat tricks have also tended to occur late in seasons; the last one registered before January 1st was by Joe Pavelski on November 16, 2002 versus Des Moines. That was one night after Mike Radja had scored three goals against Chicago. Other Black Hawks who have had hat tricks since P.K. O'Handley has been Head Coach are James Marcou (two), Garrett Regan, Tim Madsen, and Andy Nelson.
Moffie and Meuer
Lee Moffie and Keegan Meuer also turned in notable performances over the weekend. Moffie had a goal and assist Friday, plus two assists Saturday. He was named USHL Defensive Player of the Week. Keegan Meuer set up three goals Friday, including the game-winner. The three-point performance matches his single-game high from March 30, 2008 against Sioux Falls.
Overtime October
The Black Hawks have played three overtime games this month, tied for most in the USHL with the Des Moines Buccaneers. As was the case last season, the Hawks are 2-1 in overtime during October. Like the Hawks back-to-back wins last weekend, Waterloo also won in extra time October 26th and 27th, 2007.
Last Divisional Opponent
After the Black Hawks meet the Chicago Steel on Wednesday, they will have seen every USHL Eastern Division opponent. So far, the Hawks are 1-2-1 within the division. Last season, the Hawks were 4-3-0 versus Chicago in the regular season, plus 3-0 in the playoffs. After meeting the Steel, the Hawks begin their second circuit through the East, starting against Green Bay Saturday.
