On Friday night, the Gamblers gave up four third period goals to fall to the Fargo Force 6-3. Trailing 2-0 in the middle period, defenseman Chris Saracino (15:06) and forward Chris Crane (15:24) tallied goals 18-seconds apart to tie the game. The momentum was short lived as the Force tallied four third period goals to hand the Gamblers their first loss of the 2008-09 campaign. Goaltender Reid Ellingson, who was 4-0-0 heading into the contest, turned aside 19 shots in a losing effort.
On Saturday night, the Resch Center was rocking as over 3,900 turned out for the annual Caps for Cancer game. Saracino sparked the showering of over 2,500 hats when he found the back of the net at the 15:53 mark of the opening period. Fargo responded early in the second period on a Nathan Condon goal, but the Gamblers would not be denied as Taylor Johnson (9:32), Nick Jensen (10:44) and CJ Lee (19:51) all lit the lamp in the middle period. Goaltender Steven Summerhays, who was making his USHL debut, earned the victory with an impressive 26-save performance.
Green Bay hit the road on Sunday for an early evening affair with USHL Eastern Division rival Cedar Rapids. The RoughRiders scored in the opening minute and never looked back, defeating the Gamblers 4-0. Green Bay managed 30 shots on goal, but RoughRiders goaltender Mike Johnson stopped all 30 for the shutout. On the specialty teams end, the Gamblers had only three power plays and were put short-handed nine times.
With their 1-2-0 mark on the weekend, the Gamblers sit at 5-2-0 on the young season.
