Abby Wambach's July 19th goal named the best of 2003 by WUSA fans!
Tuesday, the WUSA announced that Freedom forward Abby Wambach's diving header in the July 19 game against the New York Power was selected as the WUSA Goal of the Year.
The goal began when Washington forward Mia Hamm sent a free kick from approximately 25 yards toward the goal in the 80th minute. As the ball dipped into the area, Wambach, just outside of the six-yard box, connected with the ball. With her entire body in mid-air and her momentum pulling her from right to left across the net, Wambach redir ected Hamm's free kick with her head, toward near post, leaving New York goalkeeper Saskia Webber with no chance to make a play on the shot.
Since the winning Goal of the Year was selected by fans across the country at WUSA.com, Abby and the Washington Freedom would like to thank all of the awesome Freedom and WUSA fans out there for voting and making Abby's goal the most memorable of 2003!
