Washington Kastles Push Win Streak to 29 with 22-17 Victory over Kansas City Explorers

July 27, 2012 - World TeamTennis (WTT)
NY Buzz News Release

The Washington Kastles continued their march towards sports history, winning their 29th consecutive match with a 22-17 victory over the Kansas City Explorers in Kansas City, Mo., tonight. The Kastles, who won the 2011 World TeamTennis title with a 16-0 record, have not lost a WTT match since July 22, 2010. Washington has won their first 13 matches of the 2012 WTT season and needs to win on Saturday in Springfield to complete their second consecutive undefeated regular season. The Kastles have the second longest pro sports win streak in history with 29 consecutive wins. The longest pro sports team win streak is 33 games, held by the NBA's 1971-72 Lakers.

The Kastles are the overall top seed for the World TeamTennis Finals Weekend presented by GEICO, set for September 14-16, in Charleston, S.C. They will face the New York Sportimes in the Eastern Conference Finals on Saturday, September 15. The Sportimes advanced to the playoffs with their 22-16 victory over the Springfield Lasers earlier this evening.

The loss by Springfield means the Orange County Breakers advance to the playoffs for the first time since 2009. Springfield, Kansas City and Sacramento are battling for the final Western Conference playoff spot. If Sacramento wins their match tonight against the Philadelphia Freedoms, they will qualify for the playoffs.

The regular season for the WTT Pro League presented by GEICO runs through July 28.
