SAN DIEGO, CA - Three different players scored for Washington as the Freedom defeated the San Diego Spirit 3-0 at Torero Stadium Sunday evening. Washington (2-2-0, 6 pts.) defeated San Diego (1-2-1, 4 pts.) for the first time in four meetings between the two clubs. San Diego was 2-0-1 against Washington prior to tonight's loss.

Washington's Jacqui Little scored the game winner in the 22nd minute on a 20-yard blast from just outside the penalty area for her second goal of the season. The Freedom's Abby Wambach scored her first goal of her WUSA career in the 38th minute when she slotted home a pretty cross from Skylar Little. The University of Florida product had three assists coming into the match, but Wambach had yet to find the back of the net until this evening.

Monica Gerardo closed out the scoring in the 72nd minute when she converted on a penalty kick after San Diego's Flo Omagbemi upended Wambach in the penalty box. The three goals were a new all-time high for the Freedom.

San Diego, which outshot Washington 13-11, was shut out for the first time in four games this season. The Spirit came into the match scoring an average of 3.0 goals per game, the highest per game average in the WUSA. Despite taking six shots on goal, San Diego's potent attack was unable to produce any significant scoring opportunities during the game.
