Warriors Get Big Win Over Expansion Venom

West Valley City, UT – The Utah Warriors outscored the Colorado Venom 21-0 in the first quarter and never let off the offensive throttle. Behind the game's offensive MVP Doug Smith, the Warriors (1-0) defeated the Venom (0-1) 63-16 on Saturday night at the E-Center. Smith finished the game 15x22 for 187 yards and five touchdowns, all while throwing only one interception in his first start in the NIFL. Smith added a team best 28 yards rushing and one touchdown.

Last season's league leader in receptions Emmett White, finished with eight catches for 75 yards and three touchdowns. His third came after Smith scrambled out of the pocket and hit White on the run for the score. Omar Bacon added 25 yards on the ground to go with his three touchdowns.

The defense of the Warriors out manned the confused Venom quarterbacks. Bart Amundson let the team with 8.5 tackles and recovered a fumble. Amundson was named the game's defensive MVP. Venom quarterbacks were baited into six interceptions, two each by Jason Potter and Trevor Bell. Jeff Main added 5.5 tackles and one interception.

Colorado started Jarrod Rouanzoin at quarterback, but quickly switched to Jon Boyer in the second quarter. Rouanzoin finished 3x12 for 33 yards and had two interceptions, while Boyer was 5x18 for 42 yards with six picks. The lone bright spot for Colorado was their running game. Sean Ingram led the team with 49 yards on seven carries and he added one touchdown. Quentin Crawford finished with 44 yards rushing on nine carries.

Utah next plays host to the Sioux Falls Storm on Monday, March 22 at 7pm at the E-Center. Colorado takes the next two weeks off.
