
Warriors Drop A Heartbreaker to Cavalry, 51-49

West Valley City, UT â For the first time in four tries the Wyoming Cavalry found a way to knock off the Utah Warriors. In the true fashion of the series it came down to the final possession. Wyoming kicker Trey Ransom cam into the game 0x13 on the season, but went 3x3 in this game. They key kick was a 20-yard kick with 27 seconds left in the game, putting Wyoming ahead 51-49. Ransom also had a NIFL season best 54-yard kick in the second quarter and a 46-yarder in the fourth.
Utah trailed most of the fourth quarter, but took the lead when Doug Smith found Omar Bacon in the corner of the end zone with 1:55 left to play, putting the Warriors up 49-48. Wyoming then drove the field and settled for Ransom's game winner. Utah had once last chance but they drive was ended when Jeremy Scott sacked Smith and forced a fumble, recovered by Andre Rowe of the Cavalry to seal the win.
Smith struggled for the second straight game, finishing 13x25 for 180 yards and four touchdowns. He was sacked three times, fumbled twice, and threw two interceptions. Mike Rigell led the Warriors with five catches for 75 yards and two scores. Emmett White grabbed four balls for 74 yards and a 45-yard touchdown score.
Matt Strand led the Cavalry with 210 yards on 23x42 passing and three touchdowns. Norm Thomas had seven catches for 96 yards and one touchdown and Chris Swift added another seven catches for 70 yards, also scoring once.
Cos Abercrombie led all players with 10.5 tackles for the Cavalry. He also contributed one sack. Scott finished with the game winning sack and half of another. Shawn Kojima led the Warriors with seven tackles and had one interception. Bart Amundson added 5.5 tackles, recovered one fumble and broke up two Strand passes. Trevor Bell also had 5.5 tackles for the Warriors.
The E-Center crowd of 7,649 was the biggest crowd ever to attend a Utah Warriors game. They witnessed a typical Cavalry-Warriors game that came down to the final possession for the third time in four games in this series.
Utah returns to the E-Center next Saturday for a 12 noon kickoff when they host the Myrtle Beach Stingrays. It will be the first meeting between the two teams.
