Rochester Knighthawks News Release

Rochester Knighthawks forwards Joe Walters and Joe Resetarits have been named to the U.S. Men's Indoor National Team. The United States is one of 13 countries that will compete at the FIL World Indoor Championships from Sept. 18-27 in Onondaga Nation and Syracuse, NY.

"We come from a country where lacrosse is a huge sport," said Walters. "I am just honored to represent our country and be recognized as one of the players named to the team."

Over the past several years, Walters has become one of the most recognizable American players in the National Lacrosse League. In seven seasons with his hometown Knighthawks, the former Irondequoit High School star has amassed 186 points in 88 games. The Rochester native has also won the Champion's Cup three times, netting the game-winner in the 2013 title game and setting up the winner in 2014. Last season, he helped the team to the East Division Finals after posting career highs in goals (20), assists (33) and points (53).

"Joe Walters brings a ton of big game experience," said Knighthawks and U.S. national team scout Brian Hobart. "He is a proven winner."

Resetarits, who hails from Hamburg, NY, is also coming off a career season. In his third year in the NLL, he notched career highs in assists (28) and points (48). Resetarits arrived in Rochester after a March trade with the Buffalo Bandits. He responded with 27 points (13+14) in just seven games for the Knighthawks. That success continued this summer with the Brampton Excelsiors.

In Brampton, he recorded 21 goals and 25 assists for 46 points in 11 games to finish third on the team and 12th in the MSL in scoring. Resetarits also became the first American-born player to win the Major Series Lacrosse MVP award. He can now add national team member to his year-long list of accomplishments.

"From getting traded to Rochester to the summer ball to now, it's definitely been a great time period for lacrosse, but also my life," he said. "I just keep building off positives and good things keep happening after that. I am looking forward to the winter and getting better playing in September for the Worlds and building on that to help us get back to the championship."

Resetarits, who started playing box lacrosse when he was 3 years old, will bring a unique skill set to the American roster.

"Joe Resetarits adds an inside presence and has a well-rounded game," said Hobart. "He has a lot of experience as an indoor player."

At the World Indoor Lacrosse Championships, Resetarits and Walters will play alongside former Knighthawks Casey Powell, Joe Smith, Joel White and Jake Henhawk. The Rochester duo will also work with a staff that includes former Knighthawks Chris Schiller (assistant coach) and Tim Soudan (assistant general manager). The U.S. Men's Indoor National Team will open the tournament on Friday, Sept. 18 against the Iroquois Nationals at 8:30 p.m. at the War Memorial Arena in Syracuse.

"It's a big challenge ahead, but I think U.S. Lacrosse did a really good job picking a team that will compete for a gold medal," said Walters. "I am excited to be a part of that."

"To be able to represent your country and be able to play pretty much in your backyard is pretty cool to be a part of," said Resetarits. "There is a lot at stake and our goal is to win the gold."
