Bradenton Marauders News Release

BRADENTON, Fla. - The Marauders overcame two deficits Wednesday afternoon in a 5-4 walk-off win in ten innings over the Jupiter Hammerheads at LECOM Park.

The win was the ninth in a row for the Marauders (12-5, 41-41), matching the franchise record for longest win streak.

With one out in the bottom of the tenth inning and Jupiter (8-9, 42-39) leading, 4-3, Deivis Nadal drew a walk from Hammerheads left-hander Patrick Murphy. Rodolfo Nolasco followed with an RBI-single to center field, plating extra-inning runner Tsung-Che Cheng for the tying run and advancing Nadal to third base. After a Maikol Escotto strikeout, Juan Jerez grounded a 2-0 pitch from Murphy through the right side of the infield to score Nadal for a game-winning single, capping a 3-for-4 performance for Jerez.

The game began on a bleak note for Bradenton as the Hammerheads opened the afternoon with an Ian Lewis leadoff single and a Brady Allen walk to set up an opportunity for Carlos Santiago, who crushed a 2-2 pitch from Joelvis del Rosario over the right field wall for a three-run homer.

After needing 34 pitches to finish the first inning, Del Rosario rebounded to record scoreless second and third inning before yielding to right-hander Sergio Umana in relief. The two righties combined to retire eleven straight Jupiter batters from the second inning through the fifth, keeping the Hammerheads within reach.

Meanwhile, Marauders hitters cut away at the three-run deficit. Jase Bowen tripled to right-center with one out in the bottom of the first and scored on a sacrifice fly to center field by Nolasco. In the second, Cheng drew a bases-loaded walk from Jupiter starter Juan Reynoso, bringing Bradenton within one run, 3-2, but a popout and a fielder's choice ended the inning with the bases left loaded.

Neither team scored again until the sixth inning, when Jerez led off with an infield single and later scored on a game-tying RBI-single to center by Norkis Marcos.

Marauders relievers Umana, Jack Hartman, and Johan Montero combined for six innings of scoreless work, keeping Jupiter in check through the ninth.

The Marauders could not touch Jupiter right-hander Joey Steele, who pitched two perfect innings of relief in the eighth and ninth to help send the game to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth, the Hammerheads took a lead on a leadoff single to right field by Lewis off Wilkin Ramos, scoring extra-inning baserunner Tanner Allen from second base. On the play, first baseman Jerez cut off the throw home near the mound, throwing to second base to retire Lewis on an attempt to reach second base. The heads-up play helped keep the Marauders close as Ramos retired the next two batters to send the game to the bottom of the tenth.

The series continues Thursday with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at LECOM Park. LHP Anthony Solometo will start for the Marauders, while Jupiter will counter with RHP Jake Walters.
