Threshers Drop Second Straight to Mighty Mussels, 6-2

FORT MYERS, Fl - The Clearwater Threshers dropped game two of a six-game series with the Fort Myers Mighty Mussels 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Hammond Stadium.

Right-hander Eiberson Castellano made his seventh start of the season on the mound for Clearwater, allowing five runs on five hits including a homer and striking out three in 3.1 innings of work.

Trailing 1-0 in the second, the Threshers (5-12, 40-42) capitalized on a Fort Myers fielding error and used an RBI infield single by shortstop Erick Brito to the contest 1-1.

After the Threshers put runners on the corners with no outs in the top of the fourth and failed to score, the Mighty Mussels responded immediately in the home half with four runs, including a two-run home run by Noah Cardenas to make it 5-1.

Following Castellano, the the Threshers used a foursome of relievers in Tristan Garnett, Brett Schulze (MiLB Rehab), Alex McKenney and Alex Garbrick who combined to allowed only one run on five hits while striking out nine hitters.

The Mighty Mussels (5-9, 46-32) tacked on an insurance run in the seventh, while the Threshers pushed home a run in the ninth but couldn't inch any closer. The visitors finished with only six hits and stranded 18 runners on base.

Clearwater and Fort Myers return to action in game three on Thursday night at 7 p.m. Left-hander Gabriel Cotto (2-1, 3.98 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Threshers, with coverage on the Threshers Broadcasting Network set to begin at 6:50 p.m.
