Walk-Off Homers Lifts Aviators in Extras

June 16, 2018 - Prospect League (Prospect)
Lafayette Aviators News Release

In the first extra-innings affair at Loeb this season, the Lafayette Aviators were able to escape with a 10-7 win over the visiting Hannibal Hoots thanks to a three-run walkoff homer by Kevin Dobos.

Joe Graziano pitched impressively for 5.1 innings, not allowing an opposing baserunner until the 4th inning and finishing with five strikeouts. The Aviators would strike first, scoring two runs in the 3rd inning before surrendering their first run in the top of the 4th. An error-laden 5th inning for Hannibal led to 4 runs for Lafayette, who established a comfortable five run lead. The Hoots would trim that lead to four with a run in the 6th.

The Aviators, however, would commit two errors of their own in the 7th, leading to four runs for the Hoots. That tied the game at 6. The home team's response was a Jason Cryar run in the bottom of the 7th on a sacrifice fly, which for a while would look to be the game-winner.

But with two outs in the top of the 9th Hannibal would score again, bringing home a runner from third on a double. Lafayette would go three up, three down in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings.

The Hoots walked two batters in the inning, bringing Dobos to the plate. Dobos knocked the walkoff homer clear over the wall just inside the leftfield foul pole to give the Aviators the 10-7 win.

The entire lineup had their share of success in tonight's game, as eight separate Aviators crossed home plate.Lafayette hopes to carry that momentum into their next game on Sunday, another home affair against the Butler Blue Sox. First pitch is scheduled for 5:05 pm.
