A rematch of the contest last week, and at the same venue as well! The Brigade will look to avenge a rough 61-53 loss to the Empire last week, in which the Brigade offense turned in one of its more mistake-laden performances. Baltimore was forced into committing four total turnovers, three of which were lost fumbles in its own territory! Obviously, the Brigade will be looking for a more cohesive offensive attack. When the Brigade held onto the ball, its drives ended in a touchdown on every possession, except for a field goal at the end of the first half. The Brigade's problems are not just on offense, though, as Albany scored on nine of 10 possessions last week. In the last edition of PSW, I mentioned the troubling performance of the unit against Washington, and those issues showed up again versus the Empire.
As for Albany, last week's victory marked its fifth consecutive win since starting the season winless in its first two contests. The Empire has all the makings of an AFL champion, and in my opinion, is the favorite to do just that. Albany's defense is what makes the team so impressive, as it allows just 5.4 yards per play, and owns the best point differential in the league by a wide margin. To own that differential, a team needs a potent offensive attack as well, and Albany has one. The offense has not scored fewer than 40 points since the first week of play, and it has dropped a total of 250 points during this five-game stretch.
Looking at the number of Albany -3, it seems like a bargain. The way this team has been playing on both sides of the ball, one could definitely make the case of the Empire being nearly a touchdown favorite at home. So, if you can find a field-goal line, lay it immediately as Albany is primed for another great performance against a poor defense in Baltimore. As for the total, let's go with another shootout this week and take the Over.
