New Orleans VooDoo News Release
NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans VooDoo wide receiver Brelan Chancellor has signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers of the National Football League and has been placed on other league exempt, announced the VooDoo front office Monday morning.
"I am not surprised, Brelan is a very good player," said VooDoo Head Coach Dean Cokinos. "We knew he was getting a lot of NFL looks, it is well deserved. This is part of the business when you sign high quality players, moving forward we will replace Chancellor's spot with another talented player."
Chancellor (5-10, 185, North Texas) was named the 2013 Conference USA Special Teams Player of Year during his time spent at North Texas. Chancellor was awarded first-team all-conference kick and punt returner and second-team all-conference wide receiver, after posting a single season school record of 1,964 all-purpose yards. He also recorded 386 punt return yards and was one of only 10 players nationally to return a punt and a kickoff for a touchdown.
Chancellor finished his career with 116 catches for 1,711 yards and 12 touchdowns. Chancellor also racked up 125 kickoff returns for 3,031 yards (24.2 avg.) and three touchdowns, and 45 punt returns for 437 yards (9.7 avg.) and one touchdown.
Chancellor is the second member of the New Orleans VooDoo, behind wide receiver Alex Gillett (Green Bay), to be signed to a NFL team.
