October 7, 2014 - Arena Football League (AFL)
New Orleans VooDoo News Release

NEW ORLEANS (October 7, 2014) - The New Orleans VooDoo have been assigned quarterback, Brian Reader, wide receiver, Kyler Reed and offensive lineman, RJ Bibbs, announced the VooDoo front office Tuesday evening.

The VooDoo has acquired former Iowa Barnstormers quarterback, Brian Reader.

Reader (6-3, 215, Idaho) has spent the past two seasons with the Iowa Barnstormers, formerly of the AFL. This past season, Reader completed 66-of-108 passes for 858 yards and 17 touchdowns in 13 games. In 2013, he completed 48-of-87 passes for 612 yards and 12 touchdowns in 11 games with the Barnstormers.

In 2011, during his final year of his collegiate career, Reader completed 192-of-354 passes for 1,974 yards and 10 touchdowns. He finished his collegiate career ranked eighth on Idaho's all-time efficiency list (132.05) and completion percentage list (55.5). Reader is a native of Prunedale, CA.

"We are excited about Brian," said VooDoo Head Coach Dean Cokinos. "As a young QB he has good size and is smart, as well as, tough- all important qualities for an AFL quarterback. He also has Arena experience, which is essential. I am looking forward to working with and developing Brian."

The VooDoo is stacking up the receiving corps with the addition of wide receiver Kyler Reed.

Reed (6-3, 228, Nebraska) most recently spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, NFL as a free agent, in 2013. During his collegiate career, Reed finished with one of the top careers for a Nebraska tight end during a productive senior season in 2012. Reed finished off his senior year with a career-high five catches including his 10th career touchdown and his 57 receiving yards ranked second on the team. Reed was a four-year letterman at Nebraska and earned honorable mention All-Big Ten as a senior.

"Kyler Reed was one of the more dynamic players in college football coming out of Nebraska in 2013 as a TE," said Coach Cokinos. "At 6'3", 228 lbs he has the speed that most wide receivers desire, running his forty time consistently in the mid 4.4's. He was considered a "tweener" at the next level, but in the AFL his size and speed is what you look for, he will transition nicely into the Arena game and should create matchup problems for opponents."

The VooDoo close out today's transactions by adding veteran offenisve lineman RJ Bibbs.

Bibbs (6-2, 320, Miles) spent his last two season with dision rival Jacksonville Sharks. This past seaosn, Bibbs rushed 14 times for 29 yards and three touchdowns in 14 games. As a rookie, in 2013, Bibbs saw action in two games with the sharks. In 2012, Bibbs played with Knoxville in the PIFL.

During his collegiate career, Bibbs played center for the Golden Bears and was selected to the Division II/III All American Bowl All-Star Game following the 2009 season.

"RJ has many redeeming qualities as a big man that are hard to find," said Coach Cokinos. "He is durable and extremely versatile, he can play FB, offensive guard or TE and can snap the ball as center which is invaluable in the AFL as your game day roster is limited. Having played the last year and a half in Jacksonville he has a good understanding of the Arena game and the South Division."
