Lewiston MAINEiacs News Release

Lewiston, ME (QMJHL) - Friday night's game was full of emotion, as the Lewiston MAINEiacs and Drummondville Voltigeurs met up at Centre Marcel Dionne. A combined total of 18 power plays were handed out in a contest that saw the homestanding Voltigeurs pick up a 4-2 win in front of 3,078 fans.

The Voltigeurs came out strong in the first period, netting a pair of goals, while outshooting Lewiston 17-7 in the process. The first goal was scored on the man advantage, when Sean Couturier skated into the right circle, before blasting a slap shot through Nicholas Champion. A little more than six minutes later, Drummondville picked up a goal on a lucky bounce, as Nicolas Dionne spun and fired a shot from the left wing boards, ringing it in off of the corner of the post and crossbar.

After a scoreless second period, things got interesting in the third. The Voltigeurs added a goal early on, when Marc-Olivier Brouillard found the back of the net. 1:06 later, the MAINEiacs got on the scoreboard, as Matt Bissonnette slid a loose puck home in the crease on his backhand. Moments after that, Lewiston looked to have scored a second goal, as a third opportunity knocked the puck in over the line. The original call on the ice was a good goal, but the officials discussed it, and ended up waving it off.

After that, frustration ensued, as both teams began to get physical with one another. Later in the frame, Drummondville took a two-goal lead, when Ondrej Palat flipped a backhander past Champion. With ten seconds remaining, the MAINEiacs got one back, as Sam Henley slipped a loose puck in, giving the game a 4-2 final score.

Guillaume Nadeau picked up the win for the Voltigeurs, making 27 saves on 29 shots. Nicholas Champion suffered the loss for Lewiston, despite stopping 42 of the 46 shots sent his way.

The MAINEiacs and Voltigeurs will play the back end of their home-and-home series on Sunday at 4:00, when Lewiston returns to the Androscoggin Bank Colisee for the first time in ten days.
