Rochester Rhinos News Release
ROCHESTER, NY - The Rochester Rhinos opened at home on Saturday against FC Montreal with a 2-1 victory against their Eastern Conference rivals. Christian Volesky led the team with two goals in four minutes to come out on top of FC Montreal.
A physical first half saw a chances for both teams with Ballou Jean-Yves Tabla leading the attack for Montreal. Sean Totsch had a chance to get on the board for the Rhinos but saw his shot saved by Maxime Crepeau seven minutes before the halftime break leaving the teams scoreless.
After a scoreless first, Montreal took the lead with only three minutes into the second half after a poor defensive play by the Rhinos. The unassisted goal was scored by Charles Joly. Those three minutes were one of the only times Rochester has trailed at home since 2015. Rochester quickly settled the score with a goal by Christian Volesky just four minutes later. A foul on Vassilios Apostolopoulos that resulted in a penalty kick led to another chance for Volesky to continue his dominance against FC Montreal.
The goal was Volesky's second against Maxime Crepeau for the day. That was his seventh against Montreal in the past two seasons. Volesky had the chance for an opening day hat trick in the 67th minute when he
beat a defender for a one on one chance with Crepeau, but instead he shot the ball high and wide of the right post. Rochester advances to 2-1-1 on the season.
