Vancouver, WA -The Vancouver Volcanoes are aiming to make a statement in 2008. Ownership's commitment to improvement is evidenced by what is clearly the Volcanoes' most talented roster in team history. Listed below is information of the first eight players to commit to Vancouver for the '08 season:
Brad Lechtenberg - 6'2" GUniversity of San DiegoLechtenberg is a 2006 IBL All-Star with tremendous range and a quick release. Lechtenberg averaged 17.4 ppg for the Volcanoes in 2007. Lechtenberg led the NCAA in three point shooting accuracy in 2003.
Porter Troupe - 6'5" GUniversity of PortlandTroupe averaged 19.2 points per game for Vancouver last season en route to IBL All-Star honors. Troupe is moving to the 2-guard position; after summer workouts is considered by various scouts to be an NBA prospect.
Shawn Malloy - 6'11" CUniversity of New OrleansMalloy is a gifted athlete and solid interior defender. Malloy played for Portland in 2007 but looks to bolster the Volcanoes interior defense in 2008. Malloy is currently playing overseas.
Edjuan Green - 6'7" FTexas A&MEdjuan Green was one of the league's top rebounders in 2007, with four games with 20-plus rebounds and 20 plus points. Edjuan is currently playing in Germany.
Gary Muzzy - 6'5" GGary Muzzy is a Dennis Rodman like workhorse on the floor and a terrific on-the-ball defender. Averaged 8.3 points and 8.3 rebounds for the Volcanoes in 2007.
Kevin 'Pip' Bloodsaw - 6'5" GArkansas OzarkPip, the IBL's All-Time leading scorer, earned All-Star honors as a Volcano in 2005 and 2006. Last year, Pip averaged 17.9 points for the Central Oregon Hotshots, but returns to Vancouver in pursuit of an IBL championship.
Jake Carlisle - 6'8" FAlaska AnchorageCarlisle has played previously in the CBA and the IBL. Carlisle joins Pip in a return to the Volcanoes with the same goals- an IBL Championship.
Kevin Tyner - 6'0 GWestern Oregon UniversityTyner ran the offense for the high-scoring Salem Stampede in 2007 as Salem finished 18-4.
