Billings Bulls News Release
The main goal in junior hockey is to move kids on to college. Players between the ages of 16-20 can come to Billings and experience what most professional leagues go through. 58 game schedule, long bus trips, and playing in front of large crowds prepares them for the next level. But the players aren't the only people trying to move up the food chain.
First-year Bulls Broadcaster Jason Mals has accepted a position with the Wichita Thunder of the Central Hockey League. He will be the voice of the Thunder and selling season tickets during the off-season. The Central Hockey League led all North American minor pro "AA" leagues in average attendance during the regular season, welcoming an average of 4,501 fans per contest.
"I'm very excited about the opportunity," said Mals. "The experience here in Billings was invaluable for me. It was hard to turn down a jump to the pro level and Wichita has been around for some time."
The suburban-Chicago native came to Billings last July after graduating from Penn State University. A former player in his own right, he was involved with the student station, The Lion 90.7 fm. He was able to witness two ACHA Championships as part of the broadcast team. Mals won't forget his time in Billings.
"The fans have been great. They really appreciated listening to the road games this season," said Mals. "It was a great starting point for me and I just hope this organization can bring home a Gold Cup some day."
Anyone interested in a part-time position of doing the radio and traveling with the team should contact Director of Sales and Marketing, Amy English.
