Virginia Destroyers News Release

VIRGINIA BEACH, VIRGINIA (September 30, 2011) The Virginia Destroyers and Destroyer fans have teamed together in an effort to bring the 2011 UFL Championship Game to the Virginia Beach Sportsplex.

The combination of fan support, attendance, social media integration and each team's record, which decided the venue for the 2010 finale, will influence where the 2011 Championship will be played. Fans can vote on the United Football League official page on Facebook. Virginia holds a dominant lead in the voting.

"This strategy was popular with our fans last season, so we will again allow them to help us determine where to play our showpiece event," said UFL Commissioner Michael Huyghue.

A date for the game has not been announced. The UFL regular season ends on Oct. 28.

Despite an all-day rain, the Destroyers (2-0) drew 12,176 fans for their inaugural game at the Sportsplex on Sept. 24, and ticket sales are strong for the team's next home game: Oct. 7 against the Sacramento Mountain Lions.

Destroyers Fan Club President Eric Kevitz believes Virginia is the ideal location for this season's UFL Championship.

"I think it would be a perfect culmination to the rollercoaster ride we have had so far," he said.

"It would be the sweetest reward to have the championship here in front of the best fans. It would be a great opportunity for Virginia to showcase what we can support in terms of professional sports."

In addition to attendance at games, fans can also show their support by interacting on UFL social media platforms, including Facebook and Twitter, which are listed at http://www.ufl-football.com/about-us/connect-us.

Destroyers Vice President of Sales and Marketing John Castleberry noted: "Despite terrible weather conditions and the team being a relatively unknown quantity, Destroyers fans packed into the Sportsplex for the first game and showed they deserve the UFL Championship Game here in their back yard.  We've had great fan support since day one.  Now we've got a quality football team on the field I have no doubt that this community would go all out to make championship week a memorable event for the United Football League."
