Vipers Suffer First Injury of 2003

Huntsville, AL - Tennessee Valley Viper defensive specialist, Kenny Bailey, broke the fifth metatarsal in his right foot during Thursday morning's practice.

He will undergo surgery today at 3:00 to place a pin in the break. Dr. Troy Layton of SportsMed Orthopaedic Surgery and Spine Center will perform the surgery. He is expected to be out of action for 4-6 weeks.

Bailey led the Vipers last season in tackles with 88.0. He was second on the team in interceptions with eight and pass break ups with 18. He set a Viper record with three interceptions at Memphis on May 11. He also played two games at wide receiver/defensive back and caught four passes for 20 yards and two touchdowns.

Defensive Specialist, Demetrius Patterson, also sat out Friday morning's practice after hyper-extending his left knee on Thursday night, while offensive/defensive lineman, Chris Bell, also sat out Friday's practice with a strained neck.

The Vipers also made their first cut in wide receiver/defensive back, Steven Perdue. He played the 2002 season for the Oklahoma Crude of the National Indoor Football League.
