Vipers Pick Up Center

April 18, 2002 - United Indoor Football Association (UIF)
Tennessee Valley Raptors News Release

The Tennessee Valley Vipers added a much need center to the roster on Wednesday as former Cincinnati Bearcat, Chris Bell, was assigned to the team.

Bell, (6-8, 310) was released by the Toronto Phantoms of the Arena Football League on Monday and arrived in Huntsville Wednesday afternoon. He spent the 2001 season on the Phantoms practice squad. In 2000, he was selected all-league with the Green Bay Bombers of the Indoor Football League.

"This is a big pick up for us," Viper head coach, Kevin Guy, said. "We struggled in Arkansas with pass protection and with the quarterback-center exchange. Now we have two offensive centers on the roster and we can shuffle other guys around so that they feel more comfortable."

Bell spent three years as a starter on the Cincinnati offensive line from 1996-1998. He was an all-conference and all-state selection as a senior at Northmont High School in Dayton, Ohio.

The Vipers (1-0) will host the Mobile Wizards (0-2) in the home opener on Saturday night. Kickoff is set for 7:30. Tickets are available at the Von Braun Center Box Office or by calling the Vipers office at (256) 551-3240.
