HUNTSVILLE, AL – The Tennessee Valley Vipers have been assigned former Middle Tennessee State defensive lineman, Wes Stephens.

Stephens (6-3, 260) is expected to fill the fullback/linebacker spot that was left open when Robert Gordon was lost for the season with a fractured neck.

He was a four-year letterman at Middle Tennessee State from 1998-2001. He recorded 75 tackles, 49 solo, seven sacks for 43 yards and 16 tackles-for-loss for 80 yards. He played in all 11 games and earned a start in his last five games as a senior in 2001 and finished the year with 14 tackles with 12 coming solo. He saw action in nine games, including five as a starter in 2000 and finished the season with 18 tackles on the season. He played in all 11 games and started once in 1999 and finished the year with 14 tackles, including one for loss of yards and one sack. He played in all 10 games and started seven as a freshman in 1998 and was tied for ninth on the team in tackles with 29 and registered nine tackles-for-loss, which ranked second on the team. He was redshirted in 1997.

He prepped at McGavock High School in Nashville and was voted all-region, all-metro and second team all-state as a senior. He hauled in 30 receptions for 380 yards and eight touchdowns in 1996.

The Vipers also placed wide receiver/linebacker, Ronald Bonner, on long-term injured reserve with a fractured bone in his leg. He will be out for at least two more weeks.

The Vipers travel to Memphis this weekend to take on the 4-1 Xplorers before returning to the Von Braun Center on May 18 to take on the Birmingham Steeldogs.
