Huntsville, AL - The af2 office has assigned four more players to the Tennessee Valley Vipers 2003 roster. Derek Fuqua will return for his second season with the Vipers, while former North Alabama center, Garrett Keith, former Augusta Stallion wide receiver/linebacker, Chris Johnson, and former Mississippi State wide receiver, Clarence Parker, will come to camp with the team in March.
Fuqua played in eight games for the Vipers last season and rushed for two yards on one carry. He also recorded six tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss of two yards, 3.5 sacks for 16 yards, one pass break up and one forced fumble. He played at Alabama A&M from 1997-2000 and recorded 118 tackles, 21 tackles for loss of 119 yards, 12.5 sacks, three forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and two pass break ups. He prepped at Lauderdale County High School.
Keith was a three-year starter on the offensive line for UNA. He played both the offensive and defensive line as a freshman. He was a member of the Gulf South Conference second team in 2000 and 2001 as a center. In 2001 he had two rushing attempts for three yards and one touchdown. He made 11 tackles, recovered one fumble, had one quarterback pressure and had three tackles for loss of five yards on defense. He was a three-time All-State selection at American Christian Academy in Tuscaloosa. He was chosen runner-up for the state's Lineman of the Year Award in 1998.
Johnson played in all 16 games with Augusta last season. He rushed for 13 yards on one carry and caught 57 passes for 823 yards and 27 touchdowns. He recorded 51 tackles, 1.5 tackles for loss of three yards, one sack for six yards, two interceptions, four pass break ups, one forced fumble and one safety. He also returned an interception for a touchdown. He is perhaps one of the all-time top receivers in Georgia Southern history. He caught 69 passes for 1,316 yards and 13 touchdowns in 40 regular season games for the Eagles. He helped lead the Eagles to Division I-AA National Championships in 1999 & 2000.
Parker played at Mississippi State in 2000 and 2001 after transferring from Copiah-Lincoln Community College. He played in 22 games with the Bulldogs and caught 18 passes for 256 yards. As a sophomore at Copiah-Lincoln, he caught 31 passes for 449 yards and four touchdowns. As a senior at Natchez High School, he caught 27 passes for 430 yards and five touchdowns. He was a first-team All-State selection at wide receiver.
