Vincello, Fronimadis And Aaboubou Will Not Be Back In 2008

ESPOSENDE, Portugal - The Impact announced Tuesday that Impact defender Mauricio Vincello would not be back with the club in 2008. The Argentinean left back, who was named Defensive Player of the Year last season and Most Valuable Player in 2006, advised the club that he wished to retire from soccer.
In four seasons with the Impact, Vincello played 102 games, 94 as starter, and 8486 minutes of play. Known for his offensive skills, he tallied seven goals and nine assists for a total of 23 points. Vincello had also scored the game-winning goal during the 2004 championship final against the Seattle Sounders, after being hospitalized the night before for a serious gastroenteritis.
"We are obviously disappointed but we respect Mauricio's decision," said Impact coach Nick De Santis. "However, we also told him that our door would always be open, should he have a change of heart."
In other player moves, the Impact announced that defender David Fronimadis and Hicham Aaboubou would not be back. Fronimadis, who joined the club in 2002, started 12 games, playing 923 minutes, last season, while Aaboubou played 11 games, three as a starter, for 416 minutes of play.
CHARLES GBEKE IS BACK
Impact forward Charles Gbeke joined his teammates, Tuesday in Esposende, after a stint in Florida with the Canadian national team, in January. Gbeke was involved in community projects with underprivileged kids in Brazil in the off season. He was the Impact's leading scorer last year with 10 goals.
Brazilian midfielder Daniel Chagas has joined the team on a trial basis during camp, bringing the number of players trying out with the team to 10.
THE IMPACT TIES 1-1
The Impact played to a 1-1 tie against a Portuguese selection, Tuesday, in a mini-match. Montreal scored on an own-goal, while forward Matthew Palleschi hit the crossbar in the second half.
Head coach Nick De Santis made numerous changes during the game, using all his players except goalkeepers Andrew Weber and Matt Jordan, defenders Adam Braz and Nevio Pizzolitto, as well as forward Roberto Brown.
